Maybe your crossovers are too low? Could be bottoming your woofers? Don't know, just giving you somewhere to start troubleshooting.

Chuck,

If you are using the analog outputs then this is a confirmed issue and we are looking into the possibility of this being addressable through firmware.

Watched it earlier this week and enjoyed it more than in theaters. Of course in theaters the bass sounded like kroger bags

Wow. Are the outputs clipping? I remember some clipping issues with the Oppo. I thought it had to do with bass management, I wonder if this is related.

Not clipping, just simply not playing at all (the rear channels).

I've got an old Sony 5.1 that has no HDMI, uses a passive subwoofer, only digital audio inputs are coax and optical and best output it has is regular DTS. The surrounds and dialog were working properly on my Blu-ray disc that was outputting DTS-HD 7.1 even though my Home Theater receiver was only 5.1. My setup is an early and cheap Magnavox/Funai Blu-ray player, LG 55" LED Smart TV and above mentioned Sony Receiver. Blu-ray is hooked to TV with HDMI and TV passes audio out thru an optical audio out port that is connected to the optical audio in port on the receiver.

Are you also using the Oppo's analog outputs? When I pop in my Disney WOW test disc without changing anything and play the channel finder it works fine (finds all channels). I posted the problem to the Oppo BDP83 owner's thread as well if you want to chime in there.

I also wonder if anyone else is using any bluray player with analog outputs with this disc and seeing any issues.

I figured out how to solve the issue with this particular Blu-ray. I did send an email to Oppo and they were also going to look into the problem with this disc. After I contacted them I tried a few more things at home with my setup. I do use the analog outputs on this player because my legacy receiver doesn't process the HD surround formats. Normally when you are using the analog outputs the manual for this player recommends turning the secondary audio off. I went into the set up menu and turned secondary audio to on. This solved the problem right away. For whatever reason with the Force Awakens disc if you have secondary audio turned off you don't get a surround signal. I hope this helps. I will also post this in the oppo bdp83 owner's thread in case anyone else runs into this.
Cheers
Erik

Has anyone tried to play the bonus disc on PowerDVD? It doesn't work. All you get is a BB8 gif with no menu options. Would like to get that fixed...

I actually use Jriver as my main media player, and it will play the longest playlist on the disc which is the making of featurette. I want access to the menu and everything else on it, so I occasionally use PowerDVD. Don't know why it isn't working. I don't use Kodi at all, though.

Kodi is free and should allow you to access the menu. Can't hurt to install it and give it a try.

I've hosted various friends for three full screenings so far. I've also returned to revisit some scenes just for fun. Newly impressed each time with the photography, transfer, mix, and actors. The extras are super interesting, too.

The mix just seems right on the money. Impressive and "natural/organic" to the action, but only imposing where it should be...and as mentioned by others, there's a couple of scenes where they use the LFE to do just that. I have to chuckle when the LF pumps with Rey's and Kylo's pulsing brows in the interrogation scene.

I also thought that for a 1080p disc it looks great.

3D version hits 11/15, with new extras. Consider this release the "definitive version" to own as it has all the previous extras - including exclusives - and the 3D version, in addition to the 2D.

I wouldn't hold my breath, for some reason Disney is really holding back from the UHD/4k streaming/disc movement. Maybe they are waiting for Dolby Vision-enabled UHD players to come out next year before joining (considering TFA was shown in Dolby Vision in theaters)

as far as this release, even though I saw TFA in 3D in the theater, any my LG TV does 3D, i'll wait until the prequel+TFA 3D set is released before double-dipping

Hopefully it also includes an Atmos mix, and variable aspect ratio

Right now, only Warners and Lionsgate have Dolby deals. As for Disney, people have been complaining about how few 3D releases we get from them. And 3D sells better than UHD. So I wouldn't expect them to start releasing titles that will sell less than 3D. Perhaps in a year or two, if it seems like it will be profitable. But right now, they aren't going to jump into a format that is a niche within a niche within a niche. (The only reason we are getting STAR WARS 3D is because it's from Lucasfilm, not Disney.)

3D Blu-ray: White dots in upper left corner

Just got the UK Blu-ray release version of "The Force Awakens 3D" yesteday.
Looks and sounds great, but one strange thing occured during the crash-landing scene on Jaccu:
A pattern of four white dots in the upper left corner (see photo).
It only appears in the 3D version of the film.
I pushed "Enter" on the remote because I assumed some kind of easter egg behind it, but nothing happened.
It's something that doesn't belong there, so I don't really like it.
Any clues what it is?

I have this disc also but theres no dots when viewing mine. But this is an awesome 3d disc probably one of the best I own. And watching in 3d and dts upmixing with four height speakers is fantastic,I really would love to hear the atmos mix because if it's better than this then wow we're in for a real treat. I've watched it 3 times already and like I said before the 3d is awesome definitely the way this was intended to be seen. Thanks Jim

My first thought, too, but then again... naaaw, too obvious, too crude, too distracting, you could do that in FAR more subtle, more sophisticated ways.

Finally got to see this in 3D, only to have problems of my own with the disc. I lost picture and sound for a few seconds, at two points, first at 1 hr. 12 min. and again at 1hr. 35 min. And this is the first time I played the disc on brand-new equipment I got during Black Friday: I now use a Samsung BD-J6300 BD player and an Onkyo TX-NR656 receiver, and I find no fault with either of those components. I contacted Disney Home Video support about the possibility of a defective disc, but I don't think I'll be hearing from them too soon. (Oh, and no white dots I could see on my copy.)

Looks like I may have spoken a little too soon about whether the disc was defective; now it looks more like a player issue with the Samsung unit. I played Captain America: Civil War in 3D on it and had another one or two blackout issues. I called Samsung, did a hard reset according to their directions, and now I have to see if it works properly from here on out. (And it's a brand-new unit, too, I shouldn't be having these problems with it yet...)

I got a chance to watch SW:TFA 3D on my Samsung K8500 uhd player last night on my LG LED TV, no issues at all in watching the movie in 3D. In fact, it was like watching the movie for the 1st time since I saw it in theaters in 3D. No way I can go back to watching the movie in 2D again, or even if it's ever re-released in Dolby Vision 4k

I watched the 3D blu-ray not long ago and it blew me away. What a fantastic 3D conversion/transfer. It really added to the movie and it's now my go-to version of the film. (Viewed with a JVC RS600 projector and large screen...fwiw..)

Has anyone else had issues with TFA 3D on an Xbox One S?

It does not play in 3D, only loads in 2D. Yes I am sure I have the correct disc in. Plays in 3D on my PS4 and Oppo.

Regular Blu-ray vs Apple HDR 4k streaming

I have a LG C8 OLED TV that supports 4k and HDR. So I want to watch a movie (Star Wars The Force Awakens) I have on regular blu-ray (Not ultra HD HDR 4k). Will it look better on regular Blu-ray or streamed from Apple in 4K/HDR? I sit 10 feet away so I don't think the 4k matters that much, but the HDR would.
