Hi Agerson!

TFA isn't available in HDR (streaming or disc). So you shouldn't expect much of a difference. The picture and sound will be more compressed on the stream. But you're not getting HDR either way.

Maybe Disney will release an HDR version to coincide with Rise of Skywalker (theatrical or home video)?

Sorry for the bump, I tried searching for this but couldn't find anything more recent on this Blu Ray.

I just ripped my Blu ray of this movie with MakeMKV. What surprised me is it is 16:9 letterboxed, instead of being the full 1920x1080 with the DAR flag correctly set for 2.40:1.

Quite a shame that some vertical resolution has been lost on this Blu ray. No reviewers seem to have noticed this this either, one on "thedigitalbits" even complimented the ratio, unaware of the letterboxing!

Disney and Lucasfilm’s new Blu-ray version of The Force Awakens includes the film all by itself on Disc One, in full 1080p widescreen (aspect ratio 2.40:1), so the video compression has plenty of room to breathe.
Oops!

All Blu-rays are 1920x1080, with letterboxing for wider aspect ratios. There is no such thing as anamorphic enhancement on Blu-ray.

It's been like that all along. This isn't a new thing.
