Ghostbusters 2016

Never saw it at the theatres kids want too watch it, so hopefully it's good. The Blu Ray is DTS HD MA 5.1 should of been ATMOS like the UHD version.

SUBJECTIVE STATEMENT AHEAD:
I saw it and it was pretty terrible. Not the worst thing ever, but I really wish that I had not watched it. If you can borrow it from someone or watch it free somehow, then all you'll really lose is time.

Completely agree.
Not funny at all, TERRIBLE acting all around...some decent special effects.
Not worth a purchase IMO.

Watched it the other night on my own have to admit it wasn't the best. I hate when they try too hard to make people laugh. Kids still want to watch it.

Love it or hate Sony is talking about a sequel but I do not think it will happen without a big budget cut, this one lost money. I doubt the director will ever get a that big budget movie offer again.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Watched it with the wife and kids and they enjoyed it. I have the 4K bluray and the picture quality is really good. Also has some cool special effects. Just rent it, it's worth at least one watch.

I saw it in the theater and I loved it. I thought it was a fun movie. I didn't ask for it to be anything more than what it is. I didn't go into it expecting to see Oscar-worthy dramatic performances. I expected to see a bunch of silly actors acting silly and having fun with a silly subject. That's exactly what I got. The special effects were great and, IMO, some of the best use of 3D I've seen in a theater; especially with the slime and laser effects extending beyond the borders of the frame and into the letterbox.

The amazon UHD listing appears to be a combo pack with both UHD and 3D Blu-ray. Which then begs the question, do we watch it in 3D because 3D, or in UHD (presumably HDR) because 4K (and HDR) ?

3D first, then if you want to watch it again some time - follow up in HDR.

I would say go for both but 3d would be the better choice I think first. Just buy the 4k copy and sell it on ebay if you dont like it. They are selling for 20 still used if you want to resell it.

Is it even worth a rent? It's in my queue but not sure I want to waste the time watching it.

Definitely worth a rental. Don't compare it to the original Ghost Busters (which is hard to do) and just watch it for pure silly entertainment with half-baked acting. Like I said, my wife and young kids enjoyed it. I thought it was visually impressive (4K Bluray).

very hard to take the female cast seriously and be "believable". but overall it was pretty decent. it looks amazing on the 4k HDR format though. i actually enjoyed it more than i thought i would.

I've read 3 reviews and they all say that 3D is the way to go for this one, as it was designed to be seen that way. If you only see it in 2D, than some of the FX are going to look cheesy without the 3D element. Since the movie has other issues, the 3D may be it's only saving grace!

We watch it last night in our HT ' 130in screen 2.39' Epson 5030. The movie itself was better than I thought it would be. It was fun and all the younger kids loved it. Hearing all your grandkids laughing is worth the price of admission. We just had the 2d and the Video Quality was demo quality. Sound excellent. Well worth the rental for a Halloween Party night.

Agreed. We watched it last night and found it to be very good. Lots of laughs. Great special effects. Nicely done cameos and call backs to the original. Now we all felt the original was better, but the 2016 version is still a very good movie. Certainly worth watching.

Saw it last night on a 65" HDR 10 set but in its intended 3D...thankfully. We all loved the 3D detail and imaging. More than a couple "wows" were elicited (and even some ducking from the less jaded). Possibly one of the best uses of 3D in a live-action movie I've seen in a long time. It certainly made up for the movie's other faults. The reviews I mentioned were certainly right on this one. Only way I can ever imagine watching it in flat 2D would be to check out the extended version out of curiosity.

We ended up watching in in 4K rather than 3D because the wife didn't want to put on 3D glasses. She enjoyed the movie and it's humor, but I felt most of the characters were boring (though the Egon analog wasn't so bad), and the black character was portrayed in what I would say is a racist stereotype (you could do worse as such things go, but ... ).

However, visually, this movie's special effects looked amazing in HDR. Some of the effects may be "flatter" (literally) without 3D but the big ones you can guess at what was supposed to happen because the reach beyond the letterbox bars even in 2D presentation.

I'd give the visual effects a 4/5 for HDR demo material, even seeing them only 2D. But the movie itself ... I'd give it a 2/5. It just tried too hard to be funny using formulaic laughs playing on the various styles (I assume) of the actresses without trying to actually be cohesive, and ended up feeling rather soulless to me (no pun intended). Granted, the wife thought it was amusing, but nearly every "joke" left me just sighing, and I usually ease to please when it comes to dumb jokes and bad puns.
