"Kimi no Na wa." (Your Name) A must buy for anime fans when released...

"Kimi no Na wa" (Your Name.) is the highest grossing anime in the world, surpassing Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away". This anime is by Makoto Shinkai who already has some impressive titles under his belt, including "Garden of Words" and "5 Centimeters per Second". The movie is the highest ranked anime in the Myanimelist site, scoring a 9.35. Animation fans were shocked that this anime was not nominated for an Oscar this year.

The movie was released theatrically in Japan in September 2016 and will be released in the states in April 2017. Video release is expected around October 2017. I saw this movie at the Hawaii International Film Festival and can say this anime is fantastic. The artwork and animation is highly detailed and realistic. Makoto Shinkai was said to be upset at how popular this movie became as it sets a very high standard for his future projects.

The film is about a boy and girl who randomly swap bodies and minds and how they cope with it. When the boy tries to find the girl he is confronted by a shocking truth...

The Garden of Words looked fantastic on BD. I'm sure Kimi no Na wa. will be great on the format.

I think I will forego buying from YesAsia. They user Fedex and they do not know where the hell the package is supposed to go... It went from Hong Kong to Taiwan, Japan, Alaska and back to Korea...

My previous order went from Hon Kong, Taiwan, Japan, California, back to Japan then Hawaii... Go figure...

Wow, that is an insane zigzag for a shipping route....CD Japan has always been pretty quick in shipping for me over the years, and of course you can select who you want to ship with also.

Looks like your copy is going on a world tour before it gets to you.....Damn that has to be the worst delivery route I have ever seen to get to a buyer. Have you contacted FedEx, and Yes Asia Jon?

Kimi no na ha audio quality

Sadly, despite being such a great movie, one must state that it might look phenomenal, but for sure it doesn't sound phenomenal as thanks to the nowadays retarded loudness war which is spreading across movies now as well, the score is unfortunately dynamic compressed like hell which is a real shame.

That's weird because Japanese films usually don't have that problem.

AFAIK, only the Japanese release is available in UHD... The US releases are only in 1080P

I am trying to decide what to do.

Kimi no Na Wa is my favorite movie in a long time. I saw it twice in theaters here in the US. My partner and I had a trip to Japan planned LONG before the movie came out, but it happens that our trip took us to Takayama, the town that they used as a basis for the town Mitsuha lived in. And since we had a free day there we got the "Kimi no Na Wa tour" - the train station, the two temples used, the town library, and even the bus stop. It was awesome. And of course in Tokyo we hit several of the sights there. Also while there I bought the special edition Blu-ray. Amazon.co.jp would have been cheaper but I wanted to buy it in Tokyo. It's a great souvenir of the trip (which was about a month ago).

At the time I hadn't really planned on doing an 4K upgrade. "Well...that happened" as they say. And my best friend had bought the UHD so we checked that out. I know the original was 1080p and SDR, but I think the UHD looks good. The comet really pops in the UHD. I wish I had bought that, but I didn't. So what to do? The original UHD release isn't on Amazon from Amazon anymore, and none of the vendors on Amazon right now will ship to the US. I think, without tax and whatnot, the original UHD release cost my friend about $80-ish. The only one on Amazon right now is their exclusive version, which comes with more stuff (for more money). I'm looking at $123 today.

If I buy the UHD version (which comes with everything that my BD came with) what should I do with the BD? Try to sell it and recover some $$? Keep it as a memento and have two blu-rays + a UHD for the movie? $120 is just enough that I'm second guessing (and wishing I had just bought the UHD in the first place). And to top it all off I forgot to cancel my domestic pre-order so that showed up (but I can just return that to Amazon).

"Never" is a very strong, factually inaccurate claim. Whether you liked them or not, several of the movies on your list were financially successful box office hits (A Fistful of Dollars, Godzilla 2014, The Ring, The Grudge). You're also ignoring other very successful and acclaimed remakes including The Magnificent Seven (1960) and The Departed.

true... i should have said rarely.... but the issue still stands...

Converting an anime to live action is harder still... I can't think of one that was successfully done.

Speed Racer, The Last Airbender and Ghost in the Shell were all pretty bad movies.

If it's not a BIG screen, it's not a theater...

After looking at that horrid trailer, I fully expect Alita: Battle Angel to be one of the biggest flops of all time.
