Back in my day when I was 16 and in a 150 with my old CFI (only $25/hour), ground reference maneuvers consisted of s-turns along a dirt road with the goal of modulating turn rate in response to wind so as to fly a ground track that kept the "S" the same on each side of the road. Pretty valuable basic skill to build. You'll need that when you start flying in the landing pattern which requires a specific ground track. You'll use this when turning from downwind to base and from base to final.

Heads up for anyone interested... I ended up buying Apollo 11 on iTunes since there wasn't a 4K bluray available. And good thing I did! They are selling a 4K HDR version this weekend for $9.99. I think that I paid $14.99 for the 1080p version a few weeks ago, but now it has been upgraded to 4K at no cost. Good thing I didn't get the 1080p bluray!

And for a bit of flavor, may I recommend a viewing of "Apollo 18". Pretty cool premise worth a view every now and then.

See ya. Dave

Just watched this on Prime Video. I'm 69. This is without a doubt the best video I've ever seen of that entire event. Absolutely beautiful video of the launch in particular. I instantly noticed the darker space between the hot exhaust gas exiting the nozzles and the bright, white hot flame. And the fantastic videos of the crew as they suited up; all the photos on the moon; the video from above, out the LEM window, as Armstrong stepped onto the surface, etc. Fantastic experience for me. I imagine the BD would be even better, but I gotta say that on Prime it still looked fantastic on a year-old Sony 55 900E from about 25 inches.

I watched this in 4K at a theatre and it was staggeringly good. It's a shame that there's no 4K BD version.
