1701 TMP Enterprise underwater "flying" RC model

This would have been/would be a spectacular way to film flying space shots and ship battles, retaining real world physics and motion FX.

Lasers fitted to the models would look perfect under water.

Genius re: POV cameras mounted to model

Combined with CG tweaking/cleanup, any serious director ought to consider...

The Drydock scene in Star Trek - The Motion Picture.

My last update to this project, I replaced all Travelpod scenes with Raul Mamoru's great mesh and added also Rauls Workbee combined with a new intro done by ESA/HUBBLE.

Finally this video looks like it should be !

Well, I just watched the movie yesterday. Still fun to watch. The updated special effect of the transporter system was beautiful and the very intense part where those in the beam, get scrambled. "Oh no, they're forming." That scream, soul piercing.

Ah the good old View Master. I had a lot of those. Probably have a few of the TMP trading cards somewhere too. The real prize from that era for me was the TMP blueprint set showing the Constitution refit, shuttlecraft and Klingon K't'inga. And I also had the AMT 1701 TMP model posted above. I remember the attachment points for the nacelle struts being a royal pain.

While I don't agree wth shortening the Enterprise tour and sacrificing Goldsmith's score, you have to admit he put a lot of thought into the edits for story flow, and I generally agree with most.

I would shorten the TOS flashbacks and make them a semi-transparent overlaid montage vs the full screen sequence.

Showing moon(s) on Vulcan in TMP was careless and disrespectful to TOS/fans given Spock's explicit TOS statement per the clip he showed.

There is another fan edit I've seen on YT I can't find at the moment, where the Vulcan Kolinar scene is placed as a flashback in the Kirk/McCoy/Spock lounge scene, right after McCoy asked Spock about the Kolinar, purging of residual emotion process he had planned- fades to the Vulcan scene/ceremony, then back to the lounge.

But I like the idea of doing the scenes before the main titles to mimic TOS episode style- like Bond films, probably many others in the 70's.

Funny thing, Shatner did that in ST5!

Remember, the TMP refit was still plain 'ole 1701 (no bloody A) from TMP through destruction in ST3. No -A until ST4 when a sister Constitution class (generally accepted as the Yorktown) was rechristened. So ~15 yrs in Trek time.

Though I admit referring to the refit as "-A" simplifies discussion to differentiate the TOS 1701 from the refit TMP-ST3 1701

Yes, while you are correct from a lore perspective, the models used in the movies are identical between the refit and the -A. When Scotty laments that he doesn't want no bloody A-D to the computer, the Holodeck manifests the pre-refit Enterprise, not the TMP Enterprise.
