Popeye Warner Archive Blu-ray releases

Hello,

I haven't seen it mentioned on the site, but I've been impressed by the Warner Archive Collection Popeye The Sailor 1940s Blu-ray discs released over the past year. There have been three available during this time, with the latest being the 1948-1949 cartoons in Volume 3. Has anyone from the AVS site bought any of them? Last weekend, I wrote a review of Volume 3. The picture is tremendous, with excellent color. The Popeye films are uncut, and have the original intros (not the a.a.p. ones seen during the television broadcasts of years past). Total running time of the disc is 121 minutes. There are no bonus features included, but the Popeye cartoons are as entertaining as ever.

Marshall

I have them but haven't looked at them yet. I'll take a peek at the first one over the weekend.

JazzGuyy,

You'll enjoy how great the discs look. The Warner Archive Collection team did a super job in restoring the Popeye films in the set. Plus, the cartoons are fun to watch.

I'm just glad Warner Archive is issuing them. I don't imagine Popeye is a big seller these days. I don't think the cartoons have been syndicated since the 1980s and I rarely see the movie version pop up on cable.

Warner Archive usually does a fine job, so it's good to hear they turned out nicely.
