Picked up Ghost Hound and unfortunately it's 1080i and not 1080p as labeled. I sent Sentai an email to see if that was on purpose or an encoding error.

XBOX Live: Wagmman
PSN: Wagg
BFBC2: Wagman
Steam: Wag

My Second Life character looks and acts exactly like me except he can fly.

I'm still on the fence about upgrading some of my dvd box sets. Like witchblade, gunslinger girl, and fumoffu. Desert Punk has been delayed since July. I like the dvd artboxs better, but it seems like just an HD audio upgrade for some of these. No HD audio on Appleseed. I'll just keep my steelbook dvd I guess.

AFAIK the OP/ED are 30fps while the main episode is 24fps. So 1080i is probably intentional.

Was the audio HD DTS Master Audio as it should have been?

I sure hope this is not a foreboding of what to expect with other Sentai Blu-Rays, specifically the Canaan release. I pre-ordered Canaan a few days ago when the price was at the lowest I've seen so far, right at the $40 level...

If it's not released with HD audio with 1080p resolution I might as well go with the DVD set...though price wise the Blu-Ray release is less.

Good luck finding one for a reasonable price. I just ordered the Taiwanese version from yesasia for $35.

Amazon Japan has listed Laputa: Castle in the Sky and My Neighbors the Yamadas on Blu-ray in what appear to be book-style editions like the recent release of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

I saw it posted here: http://www.nausicaa.net/wiki/Latest_News

Ah, yes, Jin-Roh. kdssrugby probably had the right idea: that BD is so rare Stateside that copies don't even appear on eBay at ridiculous prices. (I check. Regularly.) I think the odd one occasionally appears on Amazon US for over $100, but it's been at least a few months since I've seen one there.

It appears that the Taiwanese BD release doesn't have English subtitles, as opposed to either one of the two Japanese releases (one with an artbook, which appears to otherwise be the NA release, and one without the artbook or English audio track).

...and I need your sweet love, Latina T-Mobile girl!

I wish you success. I ended up going with the Japanese Blu-Ray Jin-Roh release after nearly 2 years of looking for the English Blu-Ray release (...either used or new copy didn't matter to me.)

If you can understand Japanese or read Chinese, the Taiwan release is a great deal for $38, otherwise your choice is the Japanese release for either $90 or $115 depending on if want just English subtitles or English subtitles + English Dubbing option.

The US release was the only release with the 500+ page storyboard book. The Japanese sub+dub Jin-Roh Blu-Ray release (title in black) is a Blu-Ray + DVD combo with 20 page booklet:

Oop, you're right--I keep confusing the DVD case for the artbook (those tiny, tiny pictures on YesAsia's site don't help).

Well, they are Region A so if you live in the US or Canada you can import them. The only problem is that they'll be like $80 each.

A few shots from "Chapter 1" of the Yukikaze Blu-ray. None of these are from interlaced frames. Any residual combing is a result of the upscaling process.

Just rented it after it was mentioned on the previous pages, don't really see the appeal myself.

Thanks BIll for noticing that the Taiwanese version of Jin-Roh didn't have English subs, I was so excited to see it at such a low price that I didn't notice. Just cancelled my order

Wish you'd posted this a week ago. Just about everything worthwhile is out of stock and they won't take orders on it.

I really wanted to use the deal to pick up both volumes of Xam'd.

What kind of a store doesn't take orders for out-of-stock items? Anyway, I think Xam'd Part 1 sold out almost immediately, I saw the deal like a week ago and it was already unavailable then.

I don't think they had alot in stock to begin with. everything was oos when I found out about it a day after it was posted on the site. Managed to get Tears to Tiara and Ghost Hound in-store for $70. I might get 2 copies of Xam'd 1 and see if I can exchange one of them for Xam'd 2 when it's out.

Anyone picked up the UK Nausicaä BD yet? To compare with the slightly red bias on the Japanese disc...

It's the same. Not sure what standard the UK uses for TVs, but I'd hope 6500K like most of the world. Damn Japan and it using 9300K.

Finally finished watching Canaan on Blu-Ray. Posted review on Amazon:

Canaan Blu-Ray is a very good release

Edit: Just adding some screen shots from Canaan which approximate what it looks like...

Has anyone here bought the Japanese Blu-ray releases of any of the Studio Ghibli films currently available in Japan and would care to comment on overall quality and features? How does Ponyo stack up between the US and Japanese releases for instance? While it looks like Disney is gearing up to release several more Studio Ghibli titles in 2011, I'm.... impatient.

I have Nausicaä and it is absolutely to die for. Laputa is on its way as well.

I want Princess Mononoke on BD more than any other film so I hope it gets announced soon.

Does anybody know anything about the Manga US release of Redline which is supposed to be Feb 22nd? There is zero information on in other than I've seen information saying its release date is Feb 22nd. Zero places to preorder from or any kind of meaningful release info. Kind of frustrating...
