My HD-XA2 finally died with the disc slot no longer wanting to open. Is this an issue that’s easily fixable?

You need a service manual and a voltmeter to check all voltages coming out the power supply.

Yeah, I didn’t think it was going to be an easy fix. Oh well, I got really good use out of it while it was working, so I guess it’s time I give it a proper burial.

Anyone interested in a bunch of HD-DVDs on the cheap?

My player died as well, but I have the A35 that still works. Problem is Laser Rot on most of the HDs. Really irks me.

Well, it depends. If it's a drive problem, it might be easy to fix - usually a belt may be bad that keeps the. To or from working properly.

If it's a logic board problem, which it can be since the eject function is a software controlled one, then it can be much harder to diagnose.

There's an emergency eject hole under the tray that can be used to pop the tray out so you can see if the problem is the drive or motherboard.

Thanks guys. I opened it up and couldn’t see any reasons why the door wouldn’t open. I’m just going to trash it. It served me well for many years though.

There's plenty of used HD DVD players on eBay for cheap.
