Looking to replace hd-dvd drive in my HD-A1 but.....

I'm looking at replacing the drive in my HD-A1 (its just a regular pc ide drive) and I was wondering if anyone happens to have any pictures of the internals of this model. Thanks in advance.

You can't - the playback software is located on an encrypted file that is keyed to the drive. I think it's only based on the serial number, but you'll need to re encrypt the file with the new serial number.

Not sure if you can use a recovery update to refresh the software.

Just saw this. So what you are saying is that if a drive in say, an XA2 dies, you cannot replace the drive with another from a different XA2 or A2?

I don't know about the a2 or xa2, but on the a1 and xa1 the playback software is bound to the drive. At least the playback software that's on the little USB stick inside the machine.
