Remember that they have priorities. Apparently added features are more important than bug fixes for users that probably make up 5% of the user base. The one big bug they needed to stop was the strange buffering/synch/freezup playback problems which have caused a lot of people grief.

How about: End of glitches. End of hiccups. End of "bad layer change" like effects and varying drop outs?

Well, there's always next update. Until then no TruHD for me because I'm not going to cripple my PQ. I feel bad for all the people who "upgraded" to 1.4 without a 1.2 disc and are stuck with a screwed up picture yet again.

does anyone know if the player will decode the TruHD5.1 to DTS over the Optical connection?

I have a Harmon Kardon AVR340.... I've never used the analog connections. If I use the multi-channel inputs, does anyone know if I can apply PL][-x or Neo-6 or Logic7 to virtualize the rear surrounds? What about using the HK auto-setup with MIC for the analog connections... does that work?

Keep telling yourself that and maybe it'll come true. Just because YOU don't have any problems doesn't mean PLENTY of other people don't have issues.

My player shipped with 1.4 so I don't have much of an option here either.

Q-

Mine have never had those problems either...with any firmware I've flashed. I'm not saying you dont have those problems or that they dont exist. But I have personally never had a glitch ( I may have just jinxed myself). But maybe the other poster is right...you should return your player and try another. There alot of others here that dont have those problems that you have described.

As if most of us haven't been through the gauntlet with Toshiba support over this already.

Exactly.

Some people have issues, others do not.

I'm certainly not going to exchange my player for some refurb from Toshiba if I don't absolutely have to.

In fact, I won't do that at all. It will either be a new unit or it's gone.

Being told in broken English on some forum certainly isn't going to fix the OBVIOUS issues that we see in various threads even on a very pro HD-DVD forum like this one.

So some people don't have problems. Good for them!

This firmware has to end it.

5%? I'd be willing to bet there's a larger number of early adopters than that with DVI only on their HD displays.

Flipping a couple of bits is all it would take to correct the HDMI->DVI issue. It's not like it's been there all along - Toshiba broke it in v1.4. If they're going to release firmware that's been labeled with a new whole number revision then it should be comprehensive.

That being said, I'm not gonna get all bent out of shape until the official firmware release has been confirmed and the black crush problem has also been confirmed as still being there. THEN I'll get pissed.

Same issue with COnstantine and Perfect Storm. I normally hear audio on my receiver at -38 and I have to bring it up to -31 for the TrueHD.

It sounds incredible even if it sounds lower.

Incorrect black level reproduction results in the loss (or crushing) of shadow detail.

Has this been documented? I don't think that it's possible. It seems to me that until someone verifies that the HD-A1 has the hardware necessary to decode DSD then its potential ability to play SACD is what would be termed "speculation". As of right now it does NOT support SACD, with absolutely 100% certainty.

With True HD enabled do we still have control over individual speaker volume and distance?

My sub output is already cranked all the way up in the Tosh menu compared to the other speakers.
I can deal with a couple db reduced gain overall but need that ability to tweak my surrounds. Using 5.1 analog inputs on my Pioneer receiver disables everything except the volume control on that unit.

I have 3 HDVD : The Rundown, Training Day and Swordfish. I have never seen a layer change, skipping, audio sync issue that I have been reported in the AVS forums. Im certain there is some issue with the Toshiba HD-A1, like any electronic device but the facts that you refuse to have you player replace is making me curious.

If it is so OBVIOUS, I would at least notice either of theses problem once. Which I didn't. I don't negate there is player that has the problem, my point of view is maybe something went wrong in 1 of your firmware upgrade or the manufacturing date of your player is different from mine.
