Haven’t bought a cd player in 30yrs

I think I’m looking for just a CD player. I listen to music mostly. I have a Denon 4300 based home theater.

I like streaming music, it’s pretty convenient, it plays for hours and I don’t have to think about it, but I’d like to start playing some CDs to hear on my system really sounds, I know streaming is quite inferior.

WTS, is there a way to just get a CD player and get adequate sound I mostly listen and stereo.

My guess budget of 300 or 400 bucks, I’m not really afraid of used equipment great deals can be had unless there’s something new in this price range that fits the bill perfect maybe even be used as a transport and I can get into a D to a converter

Have at it please

Kg

As of Feb 20th still looking for a Marantz SR7010

Do you have a BD player in your home theater? If so, you can start by using your BD player. As far as CD players, I'd check out accessories4less. They had the Denon 800ne for 399, they carry the Maranztz 6006, but are currently out, it's also 399, both refurbs.

If you are going to continue to use audyssey while listening to CDs, there are plusses and minuses for doing it, then your BD player may be the best option, sending the raw data to you denon and using it's DAC. Even if you don't use audyssey it may still do a a to d then d to a even under pure direct. Pure direct in the denon manual just cuts off uneeded circuitry. So I'd give you BD player a whirl.

Last year, I got a Sony UBP-X800, because it was inexpensive and it plays DVD-Audios and SACDs, as well as regular CDs (and BluRays, etc.). Last week I saw the upgraded version - X800M2 on sale at BB for $199. I'm satisfied with what I have but from what I hear, its's a good one. My only complaint with mine is that it has no analog outs.

Thumbs up

The NAD C-538 is in your price range. NAD has been making excellent CD players for years. Check out Crutchfield.

No it does not. In fact the best option may be the Sony X800M2 in that case suggested by MTVhike. The Denon 4300 accepts DSD over HDMI so it will do direct DSD to analog conversion in its output. As I said given your use of an AVR a BD player (in this case a 4k BD player) may be your best option using HDMI to hook to your AVR. It's best when using an AVR to keep everything in the digital realm as long as possible.

But if you decided to go with a conventional CD player your 4300 has a bunch of analog in connections. (red and white audio in). It's just best to keep things digital and let the AVR handle it. It will convert to digital anyway, apply processing and reconvert to analog.

Thanks for the “input” :0) i agree this looks to be a very doable option and cost effective......

You can also put ripped CDs on a usb drive and play from that. There is an app for that as well that allows you to navigate the contents of the usb drive.

Yes. The upscale player the X1100es has a front panel display and two channel analog out capability. It's currently 499.

I don't know what the Sony Music Center app is, but I doubt it. Not having a display is a problem, but not fatal. You could get a small HDMI monitor to use as a display. I've played CDs without a display and as long as you have the list of tracks, it's no problem. Playing from a flash drive with hundreds of files in various folders would be more difficult!

I think the 800 is the way to go for me, i use either my jvc pj or my aux tv a little 20”toshiba so no need for a front display.

It depends upon what and how you are streaming. You can easily stream CD-quality (or higher, even) but it of course depends upon your streaming source material's quality.

Now i stream Spotify and Pandora on my ShieldTV which is fine, i was thinking more along the lines of CD playback, but SACD and DVD-A also which i didnt give much thought of til the sony 800 came into conversations.

Two ways to play this.
1 - Buy a 800M2 or 1100ES or something like that and enjoy a player that's just not CD but SACD and BlurayAudio. They both seem pretty great.
2 - Get a kick ass CD only player and when the next 4k player or some other reason to replace it rolls around, just keep on trucking with a kick ass CD player and swap 4k players.

I'm leaning toward that NAD CD player or maybe a Yamaha CD-S300. Or the 1100ES. Dang.

I no longer have a CD player in my system, as I just don't find myself listing to music much anymore (two kids in sport year round mean I'm always on the go), but I kept a modest dedicated CD Player in my system for a long time because it offered one thing over DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD machines - speed. Input to the CD player was near instantaneous, while it seemed like inputs to the "video" players took forever. That might be one thing that you haven't thought of.
