Media player

I have Onkyo TX8270, and I am looking to purchase a media player. I was primarily looking for a CD player, and got me wondering about what features I should look out for. In the past, I was using another audio system that had everything integrated into the system whereas I am slowly building a system to accommodate music (CD) and blu-ray for movies. Is there a generic all-in-1 media player that people are happy with? Thanks.

Since you have a receiver with HDMI, you might consider a blu ray player. Sony UDP-X800M2. It is basically a universal player. Plays, CD, SACD, DVD video, DVD-A, and blu ray (both 4k and regular). It's 249 bucks. If you don't care for 4k blu ray and just want standard blu ray you can try the Sony BDP-S6700 for 99 bucks. Doesn't play DVD-A but does, SACD, CD, DVD video and Blu ray.

Want something more upscale, the Sony UPD-X1100es, at 599, plays everything the x800M2 plays and has analog audio out connections.

For CD players, I'd probably look at Marantz.

Use it as the disc transport and add an audiophile grade used DAC for low cost/high quality analog output.

See Topping, FX Audio, Cambridge, Meridian, Music Hall DAC models a generation or two behind current for audiophile sound on a budget.
