Done with HD radio ?

my only radio station just moved to a new studio, i am guessing they still use the same antenna . 97.1 WDRV . they are not currently broadcasting HD1-2 . idk if they are working on it, or killed it. other than this station, chicago rock radio pretty much sucks = the same few songs beat to death.

i am a member here https://www.radiodiscussions.com/forum.php
but my login does not work, neither does their help desk link. so i cannot ask there.

just venting and asking if someone here can find info or whatever.

i have been kicking around the idea of getting a HD unit for my garage. right now, i am glad i didn't.

Honestly, with the commercial-free options on subchannels, I rarely listen to main channels, anymore. Tampa's classical station is to die for.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

ok, i now have it. first let me say, the pioneer HD head in my truck works great in my garage.
i hooked it up, turned it on, went to my station = nothing. moved it all around, nothing. it did get some other stations i don't care about. so i took a piece of stainless tig wire and wired that to the antenna.
BINGO, kinda. it got my station, but not in stereo, at least so the ddisplay says.

i am going to take it to work, 14 miles closer to the station, and see what haappens.

then i will play around with it in my gaarage. if i can't get it to work, it goes back

ok, at work it didn't work for chit. and this was outside facing the station = downtown chicago.
i thought for sure it would have worked here.

back at my garage. i put a long wire on the antenna. if i did a rain dance, then offered a sacrific to the gods, and my first born, i could get something out of it.

Baaa, its going back.

but, it did work well on some of the other stations.

so, anyone have a recomendation for a radio that has good reception ?

Long wire is the right idea but technically incorrect. You are trying to catch a shorter wavelength-the longer antenna might actually be worse, as non resonant on the FM band.

Try a FM antenna-a small beam, mounted on the roof of the garage, with cable to the radio, should work.

I tried to find an HD Radio receiver for my home set up...no one makes one, so I just skipped over to internet radio. I even took my FM receiver off the shelf, and just stream it now.

In Vienna we sit, in late night cafe. Straight Connection, on T.E.E.

Does anyone know if WDRV HD2 is available on streaming again anywhere? About 8 years ago this station was simulcast on affiliate HD channels in several cities outside Chicago. Then is was gone but still available online. Then there was an article about how the Deep Tracks stream was getting 'Deep Sixed' because it was too popular and costing WDRV too much in royalties for a free online stream. It sure would be nice to listen to some Deep Tracks again

If they're putting all 96k on the HD1 I bet it's better than normal multicast FMHD which would be way better than analog FM, the true intent of IBOC.
