The only people who you should be apologizing to is Monoprice. The best way to do it is to either retract your review, or update it.

I agree your title and post could have been different BUT I don't agree that this is the wrong place for the post. In fact, I'd bet this specific forum is probably one of Monoprice's best customers. Maybe you're right. Maybe you should've posted it in the 'Jump to conclusions' forum. You still won't admit that maybe YOU did something wrong by not giving them a chance to make things right for you. I believe that's why companies have customer service departments?.?.?

True. Which is why this is the perfect forum to post your "rant". See reply to above quote.

purchased monoprice cables for years....never had a problem.

OP, you're the exception rather than the norm.

just call them and get a replacement. you see, so easy a caveman can do it.

Never made a purchase from them, but have nothing but good things from them.

I always have the fear of that type of behavior when selling on ebay.
I would that if I made a mistake the buyer would give me a chance to make it right before ruining my 100% positive feedback rating.

Not being a parent I made the assumption they were hopeless. My friends that are parents sometimes wish they could do the trade-in for defective products .

Said they enjoyed the manufacturing process tho.

You guys made my morning.

As for the thread topic, count me as another satisfied monoprice customer. I've order at least a few hundred bucks worth in hdmi, xlr, rca, rca->xlr, speaker wire, toslink, etc. and I cannot remember ever having a problem.

OP, sorry but it seems you're that one unlucky guy out of 1000(or more).

Fwiw,

The first thing I do with any cable (I'm a big Mono customer as well) is open the connector bodies up, examine them and ring them out. Like a previous poster stated, it's hard to buy the parts for what they sell them for.

I prefer a more flexible cable personally (oftentimes less connector strain), but I do have quite a bit of Mono stuff....I just love getting boxes of audio related gear delivered. I'm serious, regardless how small the item, I'm like a kid again upon receiving audio stuff from a brown truck, white truck, either way....macht nichts!

Markertek has a lot of what I like, wrt XLR etc. Nice, super-flexible rubber, instead of plastic, but I'll tell you, their site is dog slow. Everytime I'm there, molassess man, 9600 baud stuff. Yes, their prices are higher, but the product quality is superb, industry standard stuff.

Purchased multiple component, fiber optic, & HDMI cables without any problems, recently did have an issue with a flat panel mount, contacted Monoprice & they sent out a new bracket BEFORE I had to send the old one back, still having the same issue, they are working on a solution to either fix my existing mount or redesign the problem in a new version, either way they will make good on it, that's what I call good customer service!

Bash a company? Hardly. Here is his post (highlighted negative aspects);

Just as a heads up...........

I just purchased on of these adapters to connect a qsc pro amp to my AVR. Initially I got no sound. Using a VOM I found xlr pins 2 and 3 were both connected to the RCA center pin.....say what?

Since it was my initial time using the qsc, although disappointed with Monoprice, it was a relief to find the problem, and doing the fix was easy in the xlr plug. However, for a typical user it may not be so. This is my first issue with any Monoprice items. Though I can't get the parts for what they are selling the assembly for, I can only hope for better quality control from them.

Hardly bashing, and those of you that don't check your cables prior to use, should appreciate the notification.

My opinion, I thought his response was measured. Also, even if he notified them, returned them and received new ones..... it's still a pain in the ass. The cable should have been tested prior to leaving the facility.

I'll second the OP's experience. Now I'm a big fan of monoprice which is why I bought those same RCA/XLR adaptors and some regular XLR/XLR ended cables. Same thing, no sound when I hooked them up (actually maybe a whisper when I really turned up the volume). Measuring them the XLR/XLR appear ok, but the RCA/XLR adaptor do indeed have the RCA's center pin (the signal) going to two of the XLR pins. I don't know much about balanced connectors but there is only one signal, the other two are ground and shield I think? I assume it is the ground and shield that should be tied and connected to the RCA outer connector, not inner. Maybe just the latest batch, but I was disappointed they seem like pretty nice cables otherwise.

Great point! When I go to the link he posted in his opening post, and click on reviews, there's no review from him. The lowest is a 9 out of 10 (actually there is a 7 out of 10 but if you read it, it seems like a joke review). Hummmm, if he left a negative review, either it hasn't posted or he's really nice with his "bad" reviews.

To me, it doesn't matter. Mono shouldn't get a pass because they acknowledge their mistake. If the review was posted and explained the mistake, then that doesn't rise to bashing either,..IMO. It's a pain to get the wrong order at the drive thru, pizza delivery, or cabling. In all three scenarios, the item wasn't checked. Only takes a sec, and it's very important.

Ya, I am not advocating anything and I did not read the review so I don't know. Just mentioned that for clarification.

Wow....this thread has taken on a life of its own. Here is my review on MP at the bottom of the page:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...mat=4#feedback

Beware of Pin Configuration
Pros: Quality Materials, Fast shipping

Cons: Would not work upon initial use.....after troubleshooting I found xlr pins 2 and 3 were both connected to the RCA center pin. This is incorrect and the adapter would not work until I opened it up and made corrections. This repair may not be possible by the typical user, and would result in a lower review score if they were to isolate the problem. Shame on you, Monoprice, for your production quality control here. However, I must say this is the first quality issue I have encountered and I will continue to be a customer.

Heh, same thing just happened to me with PID: 4777. I contacted them immediately and they issued a RMA. Let me keep the incorrectly soldered cables and sent new ones (haven't received them yet) at no cost to me. I've order many cables from them with no issues. The only other problem I had were with PID: 7136 adapters. Regardless MonoPrice rocks. Everyone makes mistakes. Hehe.

Sure sounds like they have/had a batch with some incorrectly-built cables.

Hopefully Monoprice would have the wherewithal to implement a quality/bin check on those cables to weed out the bad ones rather than just keep sending them out.

Just because there is a knob doesn't mean you should turn it.

I have bought over $1,000 worth of cables from Monoprice. I have had one component cable go bad, but that was after two years of use and the cable was in a wall, so the problem might not have been the manufacturers fault.

I called them on Monday and they are sending me 1 free replacement cable, probably pinned the same way. I would suggest doing the same if you can repair them yourself. If not, get your money back......I suspect they have a bin full of these, and I suggested it to product support.

Man you just don't get it do you? You are NEVER wrong in your world I bet!

It's all about how YOU handled it. Monoprice, as well as other companies, are allowed to screw up. It's how YOU handled it by leaving a negative review, then posting a "Beware" thread here - BEFORE you mentioned it to the source.

But I'm wrong I bet!

Sorry you still feel flustered, dbl...... we are all entitled to our own opinions, and I certainly respect yours. I did leave a web based text message to MP tech support, since it was after hours, before posting here (never got a response from that btw).....hey, we have all done things we wish could be undone, right? Ultimately I think it is much ado about nothing....try to have a good night.

Yes, and I got 5 of them 2 days ago that are wired wrong. So, Monoprice has a problem with their quality.
