Hello,

I wonder, has anyone tried to make (or purchase) a metal grill for the SB-1000 subwoofer by SVS? I am considering buying one, but I would much rather have a metal grill than the cloth one it comes with. The bigger SVS subs do come with metal grills, but the SB-1000 unfortunately does not.

Thanks,

-Stan

Hey Stan, I haven't noticed anything over here in DIY regarding building a new grill or ID off the top of my head. I would give SVS a call and see if a guy could customize a metal grill to fit or send them a mail. http://www.svsound.com/support/customer-service

Thank you all for the replies.

I have already spoken to SVS; they do not offer metal grills for the SB-1000.

I checked out Speaker Works; I guess I could use one of their round grills, although the fasteners would probably take away some from the aesthetics. The factory SVS metal grills, where offered, are rectangular, arched, protruding around 2 inches at the center, and, judging from the photos I have seen, a hem bent inwards and mounting posts on the hem, discretely hidden.

It might work. Looking at the pictures, it is hard to tell, but it appears that the hem is bent on the back, right? I think, though, that I will need a wider hem, and preferably, rounded corners, like this (this here is the SB-2000, for which SVS offers metal grill):

I dunno, I was thinking you could/might come up with something after looking at the link. I don’t see it being exact though.

How did you end up solving this? I'm looking at an SVS SV1000, too, but it'll be under my desk, and I don't want to kick it!
