Yup.

Dare I throw out one of my 'famous' predictions?

Who wants to put in their over/under?

I definitely wouldn't rule out the possibility of coming back for seconds. I've enjoyed my hsu so much that it just makes the craving for more bass even stronger. Hearing beast's setup really put into perspective how much I'm missing out on below the hsu's admirable low end capabilities. I want to go lower and louder and DIY seems to be the best direction for the money, which will continue to be in short supply for the next year til I finish school.

Thanks for the help this far and don't be afraid to throw out more tips and suggestions as I can use all the help I can get!

Btw, I'm not understanding winisd enough to figure out what kind of output and extension I can expect to get once this thing is done. Can anyone help me with this?

I can't upload my sims as fast but a quick run through in Unibox shows (with 1kw per driver) roughly [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and up. All estimated 1m distance.

That's just .... one ...of these subs you want to build.

"How low" what? Extension? It's sealed so it will extend as far down as your electronics allow. So pretty much single digits, bro. With sealed you shape the response with EQ DSP.

Add +6dB to all those numbers when you make a second. And also down low extension will be boosted because you will be in your house and not in a field on top of 100ft pole.

REALLY?!?! Fook me! This was the part of DIY I didn't really understand...the "how" you get the super low extension without having a papalock number of drivers and tens of thousands of watts or if that was a requirement. And you're telling me I can get there (to an extent) with one box, 2 18s and a <$300 amp? That's the !

Gorilla has a nice cutsheet for his DO boxes in his thread. Would work perfectly for your situation... I think?

Give his thread a look. It's buried in there somewhere.

that cutlist program with delphi linked above is pretty easy, but I have honestly gotten better results using its manual placement option. Took more cuts, but I was able to save almost 2 sheets of wood between all 4 boxes.

Will check it out, thanks.

How much extra room is optimal around the driver when it's recessed? 1/8"? 1/4"?

Ok. So Yeah without the gasket it's 18.25", so if I make it 18.5" that should put an extra 1/8" all the way around it. States the cutout is 16.7", that'll be the cutout for the innermost diameter correct?

Me likes it tight too. Just make sure to measure measure measure. It's not a huge deal if you do your outer baffles a touch larger. OTOH, if you go a bit too small it's a real b!tch if you have to sand the cutout to get the driver to fit.

Good point. May go 18 5/8" for the outer baffles then since I'm planning some sweet GUMs

So after sketchup was giving me a headache I just decided to draw it (thanks beast). Here's the drawing with associate measurements. The four sides will be sandwiched btw the top and bottom panels. Will also do a round over on all edges.

Y'all mind dbl checking my measurements?

Looks good to me. I typically like to have all 4 edges like you have on the sides do that on the front where the inner baffle mounts inside all 4 sides, and then the outer baffle mounts outside all 4 sides. It provides a great seal when done right but you have to make sure and flush trim on the inner baffles before you install the outerbaffle to ensure an airtight seal between the two.

So you're saying sandwich everything (front/back and inner baffles) btw the top and bottom except for the just the outer speaker baffles?
Or simply sandwich everything btw the sides with the speakers?

Ok, so how you have it right now, the side panels fit where the top/bottom, front and back all come out to the edge of the box and the side panels fit inside all four. What I was saying is I typically have the front (and rear for dual opposed) inner baffles mounted this way. So the inner baffle fits inside the top/bottom and sides, and then the outer baffle is mounted adding 1 1/2" inches on each dimensions so it lays completely over top the inner baffle and sides/top-bottom. Capiche?

I think I edited my post while you were writing yours.

So sandwich everything btw the outer baffles, correct?

That'd be nice. I watched a video by Car Audio Fabrication on YouTube that was a lot of help. It's the cutout that kept kept giving me issues because he breezed through the deletion after using the push/pull. It kept leaving me with a circle on the baffle instead of the cutout. No idea how I did it the first time.
So when you make your video, go SLOW on that part
