Don’t underestimate the size of this horn. It is exactly the same size as 5 VBSS boxes.

Having said that, I imagine you would enjoy it.

Just got home... had to make a DIY roof rack just to get the plywood home. Lol Time to see what this madness is all about. I'll start by replacing the full Marty in my corner with 1 and see where that leaves me. If I build a second I guess I'll just lay it down on its side behind my seating. Itd work best to lay it with the ports facing up (keep the depth off the wall the shortest possible), but dont want to have someone use it as a shelf and have stuff fall into the ports.

I'll dive back into the different submaximus build threads and take my time building this thing. Want to make sure I do it right!

I promise you, a bass horn is the best sound you ever heard! Do you plan on running this sub above 80hz?

I'm not sure yet. I have the crossover at 90 or 100hz for the system right now. The Marty is only playing up to 30hz where the VBSS take over. I imagine I'll run the horn as high in the frequency band as I can as long as it still sounds good. I've got rew and a 2x4hd to help integrate.

I'll be doing a lot of measuring before too long. I ordered some HT12s for LCR from diysg that I'm hoping will arrive in a week or so as well.

HT12's for LCR will be something you'll look at with a smile, every time
i think it's the 15" horns
looks like they "came to play" and "they got game"

with Max, once you get into BM mode,
you'll think -WHAT?!?-set them to small?

Does this require a high-pass filter ? I would assume not as it is in a sealed compartment.

It was recommended by ltd02 to put a 17hz high pass filter

Sorry to revive an old thread...
Would there be any concerns placing two of these in opposite room corners with the ports facing each other (towards the center of the room)? Port openings would be around 6' apart... or would it be better to lay them on their "backs" with the ports facing upwards?

Just generally speaking, is it a bad idea to point the ports of this design towards each other? What additional info would you like?

once again - it depends,

yes you could point them at each other, being 36" deep, that might make me think the room is only 12 feet wide
but maybe it isn't .. .
if you mean exactly opposite each other, well , guaranteed to be less than optimal for the performance they can provide when well dialed in
if it sounds good enough like what you want, DO IT
or
it depends
on where they are wrt the wall they are up against, and the room dimensions and then off the tracks into that room mode sidebar of the rabbit hole
and if not at the boundary wall then. . . .Hmmmmmm
So the question is theoretical ? or this in an actual room limitation?

I GOT IT!

Your seat is in between them, wearing a pair of V3's like headphones
(@hd0823- how did you miss this opportunity?!?)
are you going to raise them up so they fire at ear level?
and also close enough to be NF for increased TR.
OK. build 2, might as well go with the 21"s . ..
make sure you put them on modded HF dollies for ease of positioning- at 350# it's real work

While the build is in progress, get REW learned and ready to go

pics or it didn't happen

let us know of any other questions / specifics / parameters

I appreciate the input... you were spot on about the room limitation. The room is 13'w x 21'l x 10'h and I want to fit two rows of seating in it, so I don't want to sacrifice more than about 26" behind an AT screen, hence the thought of placing the GH's in opposite corners facing towards each other.

OTOH, I'm not terribly hung up on screen size so, I suppose I could place a GH in each corner with ports firing into the room, and build the AT screen in the area between them?

A little more info... I'm looking for lots of low end rumble, but I'm not looking to squeeze every last db/hz out of the system. There will likely be two additional MB modules behind the screen for chest thump, but there are a number of "slimmer" options available for those units.

Thanks in advance for your input!

look for the Hzhorn (?) iirc, in this DIY thread
been a few years now

it's slimmer, iirc, but 8' tall and might be a good fit for that 10' ceiling and other space constraints

and was deemed reasonably beastly,
of course in this neck of the woods, -who knows really . .

Can you put two submaximus v3's in the rear of your theater? You could potentially lay them down on their sides behind the second row with the horns aiming forward down your aisles (if standing them up would interfere with rear speakers). Hard to say since I don't know the layout of your room of course.

Putting them in the front corners with the screen between them would most likely force you to use a screen under 120" which may or may not be a problem for you.

While I'd rather keep the speakers hidden, that could definitely work, good idea!

I notice you're from the ATL area, would be cool to have a GTG sometime... I'd be willing to host one once my theater is complete.

spending other peoples money . . . a not so subtle devils advocate

for the cost of the 2 x 21's tucked away
you could get about 12 PA460's, all built for 15 hz tune
easy build, easy to re-locate (human back friendly) while running REW and / or MSO
and strategically co-located / strewn merrily about the rooml

is there a riser for the second row? you know what that means. .
and maybe for the first row too, with that 10' ceiling

if you've put pencil to paper in the design, etc.
then you've an idea about just what the space might hold

also depending on how much space there is behind the screen
a baffle wall of 18"'s in front
and the back of the room allows for SBA implementation
science above my paygrade but
I've been to this HT a few times- and he got it right and righteous

That is an awesome install... also way above my paygrade!

Had to laugh at the "human back friendly" reference as I'm currently recovering from having two vertebrae fused... sucks getting old!
