Not sure what the output looks like on the microcube. I'd guess the micros would be a little stronger under 25hz and the 460s a lot louder above 40hz. The micros may have lower distortion at moderate levels.

Yes, they're massive all right, I have two underneath my Fusion 12's to provide bottom end to the left and right mains. They remind me of the big wooden tea chests that we would use as moving boxes back in the UK.

By the way, how does your slot port open into the box? From the photos, looks like its a separate sealed chamber.

It's the angle of the photo, there's a 2" gap at the top

I was all set to do a dual JBL CS1214 build when I stumbled onto this.

How would one of these do with 800 rms? Would be powered by a Crest CKI800s bridged at 8 ohm.

I've seen mention of powering 2 of them with an inuke 1000 so I'm concerned that 800 rms would be too much power. Yay or nay?

So I may be able to pick up a used PA460 in the near future. Would be working in conjunction with 2 Infinity 1260ws in a small 13x9x7 room all powered by an iNuke DSP3000.

Couple of questions for the VBSS experts here.

1) Is the PA460 a huge step up vs the Infinities, and should I try to get 2 of the PA460s instead of with the Infinities? I am possibly thinking of using the 1260s nearfield though.

2) What would you do in terms or porting or sealing these boxes? All 3. I am not sure I have room for a full VBSS in the room where the sub should go, based on where my current sub performs the best. Maybe a slightly smaller variant. Or would sealing all 3 boxes and using the iNukes DSP be best in this situation?

90% movie watching, not really looking to listen over 100 dBs.

Does anyone have plans for the slot port?? Do you still need to use bracing if you have the slot port?
Thanks

If just the 15Hz tune is desired then the slot port can be 1" high, full width (22") and 32" long.
The cabinet still requires bracing with the 4" precision ports or the slot port.

Hi all,

I wanted to share this picture of the 4 finished V.B.S.S. cabs I made last May with Slot Ports with the help of mtg90 for the port size and length. I will be starting a build thread separate from this one as not to clog this one up and also make it longer.
Thank you again mtg90 for your design and help. I apologize for taking so long to post my cabs.

I actually need both of these. Please, Please post the build or measurements. I have 2 Ultimax 15's and 2 PA460s that need a home. Tuned to about 20 or so HZ. Maybe lower for another room or other family members.

If you KRANK it.. They will Listen..

I'm looking to build end tables with subs built into them. That's about the size I'm looking for so the 15" would work better for me. I would want to tuning around 20hz though.

Yep I rolled them.

Behr Marquee interior paint. Color: Limousine Leather. The same a the walls/ceiling in my HT.
Such a nice paint to use and cleans easily from marks etc.

I don't. I used the one mtg90 posted at the beginning of this thread and asked him for help on measurements for square ports.
He mentioned that I probably would not be able to cut each box out of a complete sheet of wood which was understandable. So I added 1 extra sheet to the purchase and figured I would use it on another project for sure.

Here is what mtg90 wrote me for slot ports below.

If you wanted to make the VBSS enclosure slot ported you can do so with a slot port that is full width, 22" with a brace down the middle and 1.25" high.

I don't have a cultist for the slot port but you just need three extra pieces to make it. A 22" wide x 17" long piece for the top of the slot port. An 18.5" x 1.25" piece for the brace that runs down the middle of the slot port and a 1" x 22" piece to glue onto the top of the inner end of the slot port creating a short 90 degree elbow at the back.( I used a router to round over this piece as to not leave a square sharp edge for the air to create possible noise on)

Unfortunately I don't think they can be cut entirely from the single 4x8' sheet with the rest of the parts unless you piece together two smaller panels to make up the 22" x 17" piece.

This should approximate the 20hz tuning with both sides of the slot port open and the 15hz tuning if you plugged one side.

I hope this help you and others,

Just had a look at your theater thread in your sig. Looks really good mate. Where are you planning to put the VBSS's?

Thanks much. Nice setup you have as well but lots of pictures are missing. Got any updates? I have them flanking the center stacked one on one. May play with that way for awhile, then may change them using REW for guidance in the best response location behind the screen. Funny thing is they may already be in the best spot. For their size I just wanted to get them behind the screen at the time more importantly just to make sure they would fit.

I have one VBSS in a very large room and I love it but the plan was always to have it be targeted at midrange and have another sub for true lows. It's tuned to 20hz currently. I would like to get another sub for 40hz and under specifically. I'm curious about changing the VBSS to 15hz first since it's free. Not at home for a while. Has anyone switched between the two modes and compared with their ears? The test graphs looks very close.

Thought I would share a couple of my build pics. Standard VBSS build. Was the first non flatpack build I've done. It was really fun, plus it sounds awesome. So ya, now I'm hooked on DIY. Thanks guys!
