PA-460 4cuft box

Lots of rearranging going on in my home theater. After everything shook out, I have 2 PA460's and 2 empty 4cuft sealed DIYSG flatpacks put together and left over. I'm also about 7-8db down from 35hz up. Thought it might be fun to port the flatpacks and pop the Daytons in there tuned somewhere between 30 and 40. Any chance anyone can help me? Hoping for a single 4" port in each one, but have no idea on length. PA460 fits the opening perfectly. Thanks in advance for your help.

if i used winisd right the 4" port would have to be 4" long for a 35hz tune. I did sealed vs ported and at 35hz its like 0.5 db difference between the two so it might not be worth the effort of going ported... IMO

PA-460 4cuft box

I get a 6+ dB difference from 30-50 Hz comparing 4 CF tuned to 35 and 4 CF sealed.

Won't phase be out of wack using two ported VBSS with the PA-460 along with your two sealed PA-460's?

@Tip24/96 that definitely crossed my mind, but it looks like I'm going to toss a port in there anyway. I think, and I'm not at all certain about this, but the phase would be a problem where the sealed would intersect with the tuned frequency of the ported sub. The vbss is tuned at 15hz, and a sealed pa460 will never get down that far. It was going to be one of those try it and see how it goes things. Nothing to lose, they're just sitting around, but if I'm going to get s better response porting them, I may as well just do that and avoid the problems.

That is definitely what I would do. I love ported subs, and doubt that I will ever own any sealed subs. Well, maybe i would if I could afford like 16 UXL-18's! But for now, at this point in my life, my subs are all under $300 ea for just the drivers. Getting back to the topic at hand...

I am not exactly sure, but if you had a MiniDsp or iNukexxxxdsp then you could experiment with boosting the bottom end in a sealed configuration. I am not sure if either the MiniDsp or any of the iNukes can adjust phase, though.

@Tip24/96 I have both minidsp and inuke dsp, I'm sure I'll figure it out. These are really just for smoothing the room response and being added to 6 other subs. I'm sure I'll figure out how to make it work, and if I can't, I'll just do without them.

The optimum box is 40cuft tuned to 20hz with 180watts and 18db/oct 20hz HPF for 2 18's.
Port is 11x11x11.

Not bad for $200 worth of cone and a small amp.
Just needs lots of wood and space, like 42x42x42

Or one 18 in 20cuft with 90watts for 6db quieter...

I know this is an old thread, but did you end up porting your 4 cubic ft boxes? If so, which ports did you use? How does it sound??
