I edited my post previously. I spoke to a company rep today and got a very different Customer service experience than previously. It was not an improvement. I’ll leave it there. As they say, YMMV. Thanks to everyone here that has provided technical input to my project. It’s much appreciated.

Yeah the price bump sucks but perhaps bodes well for long term support in the future. I'm curious to see what new amps they come up with.

Damn that sucks. $3k + sales tax is not going to work for me. That's just nuts.

Back to the clone game I suppose.... I'd rather buy from SP that is 10 minutes from my house than China, but not when I can buy 4 clones for the price of 1 SP!

I feel the same way. Probably going to get a clone also when the time permits. Hypex maybe also in the future. I did enjoy having Brian on this forum. I do like supporting members when I can as it seems more like family then big OEM. Oh well.

I do have to also mention that I was also extremely underwhelmed with the customer service attentiveness and responses I received mid-2018 when I inquired about several features that their website did not directly address, one of which was the 12v trigger function. Their response basically assumed that I also had an electrical engineering degree from MIT. Unfortunate, because I was set on picking up an SP12000 within the month, as soon as my two SHS-24's ship.

It is hard to believe that a 22% price increase was needed. That is just insane. And i am afraid it will negatively impact their sales. I was also strongly considering them but cant justify it. They kind of priced themselves out of the market and the risk of a clone is now worth it to even more people.

$2650 was already pushing it on my comfort level for a sub amp. At $3k+ it's really a non-starter for me.

Wow, this is a blow to this community. The price hike is unacceptable for the same product. Even for people on the fence. They will lose a bunch of DIY customers. So glad I already have 2 SP amps. If the prices were like this at first a year or so earlier, I definitely would have went another route. They have great products, but I truly hope the prices come down. I hope it's not Greed, but in this economy, I'm aware manufacturing prices are sure to continue to rise.

If you KRANK it.. They will Listen..

I wonder what will happen to all the ID companies who use their amps, will make things difficult price wise.

Prices for retail sales to end users have increased at least once before, higher than the 22%, back when prospective SP dealers were asking for it. The sp2-12000 was up to $3600 or so. I think that was an 18 month experiment and then prices dropped to new, significantly lower levels. Where they remained until the latest increase.

We don't know if OEM pricing has also increased to match.

After reading about Madeel's problem, and others with Customer Service lacking, is more of a concern to me anyway.

No way to tell if OEM prices were hiked, could just be retail.

Wow, I'm glad I picked up an SP1-4000 before the price hike!

I e-mailed them in November to ask about the SP1-6000 and it's 240V rating and also for some info about the SP2-8000. Justin Ryan is the guy who responded and he was nice and super helpful in the e-mail.

I've yet to get my butt out in the freezing cold to build a box for all my subs so I haven't tested the amp yet to see if it even works. I guess I need to do that very soon!

You may want to hook up the drivers and test them in free air first. A lot easier to return/exchange a defective driver if you dont't have to pull it out of an enclosure first.

So you’ll need to come up with a similar setup to ensure your SP1-4000 amp will have a long life. And even if you know or plan this, I wanted it down on “paper” for others to read in the future. Enjoy the system when you’re able to kick the wife out long enough to enjoy. Spa day is popular as it is synonymous with sub day.
Would you recommend airflow in an open enclosure? I'm thinking of building a little 'enclosure' for the amp as it will not be mounted to my sub boxes. I am thinking of doing what would basically be described box with 4 legs and no walls. Would something like this still need a fan for air flow?

Was about to pull the trigger on a Rack mount SP2-8000 until I saw the new price today. Could have dealt with a few percent but this is ridiculous.

I'm getting lucky with buying amps. I purchased an SP2 8000 before the hike, also picked up the Emo XPA5 gen 2 for half the price of the new gen.

I'm in the same boat. No way I'm paying 20% more. I laugh when i read that the government says inflation is under 2%

You'd need to ask SpeakerPower that question. Thinking about the design parameters meaning to be in a subwoofer enclosure with some air movement, I would say a small low RPM (quiet) fan should be utilized just in case but I always error on protecting my electronics. But again, SpeakerPower would be the defacto source.

Found this on the Madisound site:

https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.co...iers_rev_c.pdf

"3. Enclosure construction.

a. This amplifier should only be installed in a wood (solid, plywood,

particle board, etc) or metal enclosure. It should not be installed in a

plastic enclosure.

b. The speaker cabinet must be 2 cu ft or larger to allow sufficient air for

cooling. Allow at least 6 inches of space around the vents in the back of

the amplifier. Do not block the circulation of air around the amplifier. Do

not place flammable materials over or near the amplifier.

c. Sound deadening material should not be installed in contact with any

electrical connections on the amplifier or speaker."

Just bit the bullet and ordered the SP-12000-DP to match up with my 2x SHS-24's that are on order. Thanks @Gorilla Killa for that 10% off code, not a huge discount but helped get me over the edge after reviewing the clone options again, contacting the main clone sellers, and getting responses that just didn't make me comfortable.

I have two amps, rather keep them isolated, so two relays.

It triggers on high (12v from avr), so jumpers are set that way.

Have any of you guys tried or are currently running one channel of your SP amp at 1ohm while the other runs at 4 ohm? Just curious...

The "channels" of speakerpower amps are entirely separate amps.

I have had a few, just have the rack in another room and then you can go without fan mods or concerns of fan noise etc.
