So I demoed TIH last night at reference with the subs 12 dB hot(on test tones) 17-20 dB hot from 4.5-10 hz based on my response. The Cop car smash seen had a shutter effect throughout the theater and seats after the last punch right before he said is that all you got.

Thanks, everybody agrees who has been in it so far. It really is much darker in person than these iPhone pics. Putting the subs in the wall really created that much bigger effect which gave me the extra 3 feet for the back row to move off that wall. BTW, I had to go green so to speak and use soy glue pine and pillows in the acoustic panels. They seem to work pretty good, they actually stick out farther than what they would have been with batts. My 2 inch panels are more like 4 inches in the middle and my 4 inch panels are more like 6. The two supporting steel poles are wrapped in several layers of foam and then covered with black microsuede. My subs are also soy glue pine plywood and I used screws and pl premium on all the seams. I stuffed them with pillows which really make them sound solid. The riser is 13 inches tall.

That last graph was with a behringer NX3000, and then with a Peavy IPR2-7500. Notice the rolloff is much less.

I gained about 5-6 dB at 3 hz during those sweeps.

I meant there is about 5-6 dB less roll off at 3hz.

Clean, ultra detailed, huge sound stage, and non fatiguing. Some of the big horns I have had covered 500hz to 12khz easily and these are still preferred. I also had Fusion pure 10s, klipsch, other JBls, Sho-10s, Yorkvilles, behringers, axiom, magnepan, etc...
@MKtheater in your speaker rankings (post 206) Is that the "stock" tlah ranked highest of that group, or your ported line array?

It was the stock going from memory. I think we all preferred the smoother sound of the soft domes compared to the compression drivers tested. Of course these were all with subwoofers so we were not comparing speakers as stand alone solutions but integrated into my HT and just overall experience.

Thanks. Everytime a new design or something came out I tried it. I had horn subs before they became a thing around here. That is why when I see horn designs I don't try them because I like low end extension over excessive midbass which I have had both, for my room anyways.

Oh, I did not even put these in there which were better than the JBL 3622, and equivalent to the Yorkville unity 215.

Plus these

This last one was an fully horn loaded system, and those MBM were crazy.

People can understand why I don't port these anymore. They already act like a ported sub where I have them.

Here are a couple responses from speakers I have built. One is a 10 and the other is a 12.

10

12

and 45 degrees off axis in room.

My 12 in the wall rolls off like the 10 and they liked to be crossed over to 120hz to the subs. These are all sealed. The new 12 crosses over at 70-80hz.

Hey, did you make further changes to the speakers or more time in dialing them in? Did you end up adding more tweeters to the 10” version?

These are just single tweeter and single 10 and or 12. I am using capable drivers to play reference in room without compression.

Here they are

10

12

Great work
Do you have a list of parts and speaker design plans? And the crossovers for each one. I’m sure it’s in this post somewhere, but I’m lazy. Lol.
Thanks and keep up the great work

I took all those apart. I made vertical towers and now bookshelves. Using higher quality and more powerful woofer and tweeters results in less work and a smoother response. Overall cost is about the same. My single 12 can play as loud but much lower than the dual 10s. My single horn loaded silk dome equals 2 of the other tweets and even more down low.

Those look great! Maybe I missed it, what type of paint/process did you use to finish them?

I was impressed by the hammer sub thread finish and mimicked it. I changed a little based on paints Used and having miter locked joint edges.

I am working on another 10 and then maybe two more 10s with the horn tweeter. I will probably sell the set to some interested parties.
