Best new toy

If you're going to be wiring up a bunch of speakers and you don't have one of these (I live under a rock, so things like this excite me), get one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Professio...72.m2749.l2649
Strips both strands of speaker wire in seconds.

I enjoy using a stock wire stripper. Something about working speaker wire w my hands is enjoyable for me.

Also I’d still need a knife because I’m using CL2 wire (14/4 & 14/2)

Now those connectors come in handy since I’m intentionally not locking myself into a single configuration by soldering. At least for my front 2.

The 4 sub boxes are pretty much stuck in a single configuration (4 ohm total load), whereas the DO sonotubes can be wired as 8 ohm, 2 ohm, or 2 x 4 ohm. That’s why I got 2 Neutrick sub connectors for those boxes ... and why the connectors come in handy lol..

I was tweaking the JBL's, and have to use a combo of REW and DIRAC and I got to thinking... are the pretty DIRAC graphs that accurate? So I plopped the mic on my desk in a random place, took 1 DIRAC measurement, optimized it for a flat line, turned my balance to just one channel (didn't do that first time... channel to channel cancelling/mixture made it a little off), ran a REW sweep and compared the two. Pretty close. Mic position was not touched. DIRAC shows better LF but that's partly the computer or subharmonic synth rolling off low freq's, whereas DIRAC is run right from the minidsp. Good to know the difference. Anyway, thought you guys might want to see. IBTHISISNOTTHERIGHTFORUMFORTHIS

Got 2 of mine installed in their boxes (Belva 1.5cf sealed), hooked up temporarily to a Crown XLS1000 until my NX3000D comes in this week. Two produce quite a bit of bass, but I'm coming from a 10" Titanic sub kit from Parts Express, so take that with a grain of salt. We listened to LOTR Fellowship of the Ring, where the ring is cut from Sauron's hand about 6 times, there was quite a bit of child like giggling coming from my buddy and myself.

They seem ok, They have actual binding post, the carpet is actually jet black (it looks charcoal to me in the picture), but the MDF seems lower quality than what you get at your neighborhood hardware store. They could probably use a brace but I did't add one to mine and I didn't hear any rattles yesterday when I was running them, time will tell on the brace I guess. I'm happy with the product for the price though.

I got the triple on eBay. Looks very solid, though I haven't installed anything in it (besides stuffing ) yet.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Q-POWER-15-...frcectupt=true

I used one of those, dual 15, 1.9 per chamber. Then I just bought some 1/2 MDF and cut some holes for 12's, construction adheasive and screws to attach it to the front of the box, painted it black.

Looks like that belva is atleast $40, with this you get 2 for 52 with a bit more air space. I assumed after driver displacement it would be around 1.75 cu ft. I used coupons and got 2 of them for like $70-80 shipped.

It does, though, honestly, I don't understand the process.
I"m currently seeding, showing (0) 5 seeds and (0) 2 peers.
Are you using the original torrent file or the magnet link?
If the problem persists, I guess this should move to that thread.

I was only looking at single 12" driver car sub enclosures. Most seemed to be ~1 cf with a few around 1.2-1.3 cf and the Belva the only one I saw at 1.5 cf. Many of the cheapest ones are 5/8" MDF whereas the better ones are 3/4". The QPower HD Series 1.2 cf box goes a step further by adding a 1" baffle. From the images I looked at none of the car sub boxes appeared to have much in the way of internal bracing.

Is there a way to test if bracing is needed?

Unlikely to need it at these sizes/volumes.

Lots of folks have done lots of things with these speakers. If anyone had blown up a box, they would have mentioned it.

Of course speaker bracing is not used to keep the box from "blowing up." Bracing is used to stiffen the cabinet to lower panel resonance that can color the speaker's sound. An example of the kind of bracing used to reduce panel resonance in a well-designed subwoofer enclosure can be seen in the image below of the Denova Audio 1.25 cf flat pack from the DIYSG website that was designed for the 10" Dayton Ultimax driver:

Raise the panel resonances, but yep! Lower the amplitude maybe?

One thing to look out for on the car boxes is volume. It's easy to tell if you're gonna get hosed; they give you the outside dimensions, calculate volume using external dimensions and compare it to what the mfg states... many of these boneheads are quoting external dimensions as the box volume... which... on planet stupid is technically correct.... but doesn't do a damn thing to help us. My 1.6 cuft box was actually 1.3 internal. It's 1.6 when you measure the outside though *severe rolls eyes*.

I've been seeding the whole time with no uploads, so it must be broken somewhere.
I'll see if I have room for it somewhere besides pCloud tomorrow.

I wasn't going to bother with stuffing, but there was a discussion about it above. Sure enough, though there isn't enough room for a clap test, snapping the fingers definitely proves a big difference between some stuffing and none.
I'll put half a pillow (Walmart Deep Pocket) in each 1.2 (ish ) cf enclosure.
Not going to worry about bracing, though.

I'd put 1.5 lbs in that enclosure. I'm not sure the unit conversion to wallmart pillows haha.

Apparently, pillow weighs 1.11 lbs, "assembled:"
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays...-Each/20450258
So each pillow is about one pound of fill. There's no way I could get all that into one speaker box.
I won't lose any sleep over it.

Get it: pillow, sleep.
