Three speakers sharing the open space inside each cabinet or divided?
Wiring won't be weird if you have enough channels and enough room: just wire three of the boxes (assuming they're at least reasonably close together) as a magic square to one channel of amp/eq. I'm guessing 9 (so 3x3) each left/center/right?

They're sharing space. It probably doesn't make a lot of difference but I like the drivers sharing the box load.

Wiring; yes, was planning on the 3x3 for at least 18 of them, if not 27. I may *need* to make a 10th box so I can do two 3x3's and two 2x3's, really depends on how things fit. I am aiming for The good news is that I have lots of flexibility with placement, even if things may not fit quite how I've laid out in my head. Here is my plan;

For the first 6 boxes, internally wire them in parallel for a 1.3 ohm load. Then wire 3 of them in series for a 4 ohm load, easy to wire without the rats nest of external parallel wiring.

I'm not sure I'll be able to do the same thing for the other 3 boxes. If I can, great. If not, here's my plan for the other boxes.

A) Build one more, internally wire for 12 ohms, externally wired in parallel with another one for 6 ohms, and matched with a smaller amp.
B) If I can't do three 3x3's, just put triple terminals on the remaining boxes and figure it out as it comes. Lord knows I have enough hardware I've stocked up.

Should be exciting once I get to setting 'er up. Placement and capability, I should be able to get some great smooth bottom end response with enough SPL to satisfy.

Chris

Yup. So tight we ended up having to take the back cross brace off to get it in.

Original plan was to slide it up and in but it wouldn’t make the turn. I bought some pieces that we didn’t use to help manhandle it into place. I may need to make a handhold to help get it back out as it is so snug you have to get it out just right lol...

Bought two of those and didn’t put them in. Will be going old school and screwing a nylon strip on both sides to help pull he enclosure out.

I picked up 4 more. Spares? I guess I'm just not sure where I'll land with the drivers I have now, certainly my stock pile will get smaller with most being in use. I'm also messing around with the idea of re-making the nearfield dozen once this part is all done, a more narrow cabinet to maximize floor space.

I have a question. So as we all know, point sources lose 6dB every time you double the distance. Line sources only lose 3dB every time you double the distance. What about a wall source?

I mean with enough JBL subs you could definitely cover a whole wall. Wouldn’t that make it so you don’t lose any dB anywhere in the room? It’s just a giant, pure wave of sound that can’t lose any energy until it goes through a wall right?

Id like to see someone do this lol.

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

Doesn't quite work like that, but a wall source would provide some cool benefits, besides looking awesome.

If a riser were an option I’d already have built all 16 into one . Wife said nope. Couch is also too nice to try and hide them inside either.

Hell if she’d have let me I’d have built a buffet table behind the sectional with all 16 and used it for pictures and whatnot on top.

Limited time to play with them before my wife got home, so I just ran XT32 with each sub connected to its own output. Then I played some clips and music.

Good news from testing today.

-Both boxes have panel resonances that increase as volume goes up. However with a LAMP on top the lamp DOESNT SHAKE even at insane levels. I clip the input before the lamp moves noticeably enough to see. Even have a google home on it and no movement.

- I’m getting increase in tactile feel in my chair over the single enclosure (w 4 subs too).

-Low shelf filter applied and works as anticipated. I could likely increase it if needed. (Frequency of 45hz, Gain 10db, Q .9)

Bad news from testing today.

- I can’t find my UMIK as I’d hoped to have REW sweeps to check increase in SPL down low.

- Didn’t get as much of an increase as expected so need to check if one sub needs to be out of phase with the other and overall measure. Good news here is I have Friday night to myself this upcoming week so if I find it, I will be testing for sure.

Of course, you'd need a wall of subs on the other side to cancel the wave (or one HECK of a lot of absorption).

I don't think there are many people that need that much bass that evenly distributed over that much listening area.
The nine I have nearfield right behind our two seats serve that purpose much more simply.

Let’s have a $30 JBL sub Get-Together and line up all the walls in someone’s theater with everyone’s collective subs and see if we can have one hell of a time!

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

Dammit... I'm really thinking about buying 6 of these for future reasons. I have an open channel on the fp20q after my 3 24s that I won't be using and that would power those perfectly. Decisions decisions...

Came here to let everyone know they are back on sale for $30 but someone beat me to it. I have 20 on the way. I'm going to put 16 in an infinite baffle, coming up through the floor from the basement. Winisd says it's not a good infinite baffle sub, but it changes it's mind when you put 16 into the simulation lol. I'll make a post of me cutting holes in the floor next month. Winisd says 110db @ 10hz, 125db @ 20hz, 130db @ 30hz, and a ridiculous 140db at 50hz lol.

Sounds like a plan! If I had spare cash I might pickup a few more but I think it’s a itch I need NOT to scratch lol.....

Otherwise the speakers will still be cheap, but I won’t be able to afford them after the divorce..... hehe

I need 6 but the web site says "limit 5 per customer". How do you get past that? I ordered 4 hoping I can just go order the two more I need (or pick them up in the store).

The goal is two magic squares for VNF. I already have 12 of these (8 of which are "in service").

Boom. I knew all that clean living would pay off somehow

I need 6 but the web site says "limit 5 per customer". How do you get past that? I ordered 4 hoping I can just go order the two more I need (or pick them up in the store).

The goal is two magic squares for VNF. I already have 12 of these (8 of which are "in service").
I bought 5 with my main bestbuy account. Then I made a second account with my secondary email and bought 5. Had my SO order 5, then her sister ordered 5. I'm still waiting to see if they catch on that I bought them with 2 separate email accounts...
