Sure, the $130 list is ridiculous, as most list price is. Usual "sale" price is $65, which is probably fair, especially considering it's discontinued for a year or so already.
I'm willing to bet most car enthusiasts would "eq the snot out of them," too.
Michael
Yeah, spit balling seems like ~65-75 or so worth of woofer, a great deal for sure.

Ok, played around with SLAPS with garage triples. 6 cuft, 2 mass loaded JBL's, one slaps (with mass removed). Sounds decent, fun to play with. Just dialed it in via ear. Minimal EQ, sounds fun, but I do prefer my slew of sealed. I'm sure I could get it closer with better eq and positioning out there -the garage is a compromise. Definitely louder.

How (and why) did you "mass load" the JBLs?
I'm curious about the difference between three JBLs and two JBLs plus one SLAPS.
I'm also hoping that PE doesn't have a Black Friday deal on passive radiators, because now you have me curious.

^^ And why did you remove the mass on the SLAPS? That would make the tune higher! If anything ADD mass to it: 200, 500, 1000grams It can take it, no problem

Time for my first stupid question of the week... what the heck is a “SLAPS”?

Googling took me to some interesting results to say the least... gotta stay out of urban dictionary....😀

Here’s the thing: with those you need 2 pr JBL, while the extreme Xmax on the SLAPS makes one enough for 2 JBL’s. So these wouldn’t be cheaper + the added problem of placing 4 times as many somewhere on the box.

So with SLAPS: 4 JBL’s and 2 SLAPS.

With yours: 4 JBL’s and 8!! Daytons !

The PR comes pre-loaded with a given weight. 255g IIRC. In a 6cuft enclosure it put tuning (guessing from informal sweep) down around 23hz or so. System is in the garage with a subharmonic synth that has a 25hz high pass built in, bottom line is the tune was too low to be useful. The PR wasn't really doing anything. Remember, garage system/limited eq. Pulling the mass off raised tune to around 30hz (estimated), which is much better for music/etc. I'll probably do something in between.

I would do it totally different if I were designing ground up a PR/JBL system. This is quick/dirty/no measurements/blah.

Just add cone mass, kills some upper end efficency. A mechanical way to lower Fs. Just playing around.

So.... I must be an idiot, but that may or may not be related to my issues modeling...

I went back a ways and searched this thread to find T/S parameters to put into WinISD. Did that and modeled a 4 driver sealed alignment to a .707 target... but the output graphs I get don't look anything like what others are posting... I can post a pic later (no access from work).

Also, the enclosure was over 24 cuft... roughly 6 cuft per driver... is that an indicator I screwed up the driver parameters likely?

I know I'm going to hopefully jump on the black friday sale and try to pick up 8 or 16 drivers... (good lord, did i really just type that i'm going to buy 16 sub drivers? I must be nuts...)

I was hoping to start modeling output for those configs, and get an idea what type of filtering I might want...

Anyway... thoughts? (and thanks!)

There’s your problem. With 4 sealed in 6 cuft. total (1.5 each) I get Qtc is .892. Going with larger boxes will certainly flatten response and lower the Q, but it’s diminishing returns. You only gain a few dB in the lower range, which we are already correcting for with massive EQ boosting.

Yeah, I’m in if I can get the sale price. I just found it weird that even when changing the box volume to something like 6 cuft for 4 drivers the response shape still didn’t look like others I’ve seen posted... oh well, buy drivers and figure the rest out later!

Here's what I did with nine:

Then there's the BOSS, if you need/want/have a riser:

Lots of options.

Michael,

Solid point, thanks for bringing up. Initially, I did, and reached out to him. He said the quantities needed to make it worth doing were too large. I reached out to a few other guys and quotes were all over the place, from $40 a box (yeah, right) to $900 box (also yeah right). It was at this point I decided to venture out on my own -which is something I've done successfully a couple times before.

No worries though, if anyone here is interested (once prototype comes in and is OK) I'll definitely make a post and we'll figure out a way to make them accessible and cost effective. Will probably just require some figurin' on my part with respect to how to ship a flat pack. Cost wise, I'm not looking to support a business with this stuff so I'm going to guess it'll be very very competitive. I still have no idea what shipping/duties will be just to get them to me, so I'm keeping quiet about potential costs until that's ironed out.

One of the things I do (for fun?) is work on high performance fuel pumps, and ship those all over the world, so getting parts and shipping/keeping track/etc isn't new ground I'd be breaking, but certainly the items are much larger than what I'm used to dealing with (no flat rate boxes for me!!!!).

Will be at bestbuy. Same as normal, scroll up a few (bunch) of posts and you'll see a link to the bestbuy page showing what will be on sale.

I have 3 ported subs so I don't plan on making any sealed boxes for these subs. I'm not really a DIY guy so I don't see myself building ported boxes and trying to integrate with what I have. I do have 2 of the JBL's in a BOSS platform for my couch which is really cool. When the sale hits again I was going to buy at least 2 for a rainy day or as replacements in case I damage what I have. Any reason that I should buy more? Well, other than that's what sub nuts on AVS do.

I haven't been honest with you guys. I have not ordered 40+ drivers.

You'll find that "my wife" has ordered quite a few of them, oddly enough, on the same days I ordered a bunch.

I know somewhere in this long thread these were discussed but can’t seem to find what the final consensus was. Any thoughts/opinions?

https://www.carid.com/qpower/12-heav...leid=840323356

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Q-Power-Q...Spray/48125951

Planning to do 4 of these with an inuke 3000d behind an AT screen so placement flexibility and appearance isn’t that important. I know it won’t have the output ability of some of you crazies but I’m sure it’ll be a big upgrade from my sub 1200.

I used the triple for my magic square array. Perfectly fine.
