It will be okay as far as a 4 ohm load to the amp, but eqing them is likely to be a PITA, unless you have one MLP and the other seats are much less important (or you get very lucky).

I just bought 20 of these to use as the main subwoofers in my room... I have a feeling I am going to need another line ran into my HT because a single 15 amp circuit might not do it.

If you're going to run one might as well do 2 x 20amps. The labor diff is minimal I think. That way all your gear will be on dedicated circuits and not sharing with other items in the house.

I've read most of this thread and a few others and most of these are sealed. Why not go ported? Seems for almost any box size, the ported nets a few db+. Is it for sub 20hz cone excursion? What am I missing? Example attached 1.5cf, 250w, single driver. Sealed in blue.

Because we're using more than one (in some cases, MANY more than one) and, to quote a phrase, boosting the snot out of them.

Why not run many more than one ported and have even more output?

More output up to port tune; drops like a stone after (or blows up ).
Nothing wrong with ported, as has been emphatically stated earlier, so go right ahead.

@Nalleh , I hate you!

Got a $10 prime credit from Amazon for ordering a new router (hoping it will solve my Viberry [and other] problems) and just HAD to use it on a SLAPS.
Of course, I need two to do anything useful, but I'm on my way. It will sit in the basement with the two spare JBLs.

And gives you other issues. There's been a little bit of talk in the BEQ thread of daisy chaining a couple 2x4HDs together instead. Plug 4 2x4HDs into a master one and you get a 2x16HD.

LOL. When ordering subwoofers, there ARE no accidents. Unless you have to tell your wife that.

But it sounds like you're primed for 2 magic squares, with a couple to keep as spares or put in a BOSS platform.

I just bought 4 more so I'll have 6 for BOSS use, but I ordered right before bed. Then when I was lying in bed I started thinking about how a magic square BOSS might work under the bed. Then I gave my head a shake and went to sleep, but I AM still curious.

I ordered 15 on one account and then 5 on another account. Best Buy then canceled all of my orders. The email states "Unfortunately, we were unable to verify your information, so we canceled item(s) from your order." After some research it looks like Best Buy flagged both accounts as a reseller account and cancelled all of my orders on all accounts. Apparently if you try to do any purchases online and use the same address or even order in the store and ship to that address the internal system will cancel all orders and freeze all accounts. Doing store pick up is also not an option after this. Is there any other place I can purchase these speakers from or should I go back to the drawing board and build something else for subs?

Would the 4 have better low end output then that one? Reason I'm asking is I got the 4 subs but doing the math, getting an Amp, a dsp and Making 4 boxes might cost more then 500 bucks. Looking for home tether. And I might be able to fit 4 small boxes around the living room

4 JBL's will beat the SVS. If you're planning on using DSP (you should be), low end is what you make it. If you make 4 ported boxes it would be ridiculous. You can do whatever you want, there is really no scenario where the svs beats 4 JBL's.

I do not have room to make them ported. In reading the first 25 pages plan would be to make them small sealed, 1.25-1.5 cubic foot. If that can beat the svs then I'll keep these and will figure out how to make them wife approved

I got brave and went to Best Buy today. I was able to pick up 2 of the speakers and ordered 18 more! I am thinking about building 4 vertical towers for the corners of the rooms and 1 horizontal box to sit my center channel on. I might include 2 SLAPS in each box depending on what people here say is a good idea. I think it is time for me to start a build thread. Since the whole build is DIY should I put it in the DIY section or the dedicated home theater section?

Couldn't resist ordering 4 more of these to bring my total to 8. Right now I'm running the 4 on a single bridged channel of my iNuke NU3000 (non-DSP). I now plan on running pairs of 4 in stereo (the system is for music). I suppose if that doesn't work out, I'll add one more so I can run 9 bridged in mono....

Well thanks guys, I couldn't leave well enough alone and had to order more of these.

Here's my current setup. Eight JBLs up front. They hold there own quite well. Two UM18's behind the two middle seats. The problem I've found with this setup is that only the two middle seats get the benefit of the near-field effect (which is quite nice for the center seats). So, I've got 18 more of these JBLs now to make two perfect squares to replace the UM18's behind the seating. I'll build a bar behind the seating, all the way across, and put all the JBLs in there facing forward. I love the UM18's and will try them up front (again) but suspect that the JBLs will do the job and I'll end up selling the UM18's.

How are you powering each of your JBL boxes? How much power do they actually end up using normally and during peak action scenes? I just purchased 20 of these and was planning on doing 5 boxes of 4. One odd question I have is if you were to put your head about 2 feet from the speaker how much wind are you getting? I am hesitant to build a vertical box that might put the speakers above my couch and directly at my ear level.

Keep the 18s (somewhere/anywhere) and put the JBLs in a BOSS.

I am new to WinISD but this is what I was getting when modeling these speakers with 4 sealed,4 ported, and 4 and 2 SLAPs. Would anyone be willing to double check my work?

Black=Sealed - 6 cu.ft. box
Yellow=2 SLAPS - 8 cu.ft. box
Green=Ported to 15 Hz - 255g - 6 cu.ft box

Default Highpass filter applied.

All other parameters were the same.

Into the Oban 14, great whiskey, was given a bottle by a friend at work and picked up a couple more after the first taste. Recommended if that's your thing, and still recommended if it's not.

Hope all you wondrous SOB's had a good thanksgiving and picked up some more JBL's. I picked up a few more, nothing big, just enough to round out my planned boxes. I have 36 new in boxes waiting to be used with my new enclosures (should be here end of next week?) 12 behind couch, 4 in computer room, 2 in garage. I'm pretty excited about the test enclosure coming, for those that are new to the game or missed it (or don't care), it's a simple dual opposed quad sealed (pic attached). Dimensions end up being very close to a standard 2 drawer file cabinet. My bud (who let me use his supplier) ordered a bunch of hardware for his aftermarket automotive performance store same time I get my sample, so I won't have a great idea on how much shipping was, I'll have to talk to him and see what he says, but hopefully all will go well with the build and before I place my order for at least 10 of the mofos for personal use, I'll have a rough price and photos of what came my way. Not ideal for extreme nearfield, they'll do (probably) but be subdued compared to having naked (ooooh) woofers firing directly at the back of the couch. I plan on 10 or so for initial order for myself. Have a couple close friends that want a few for themselves too, maybe I can negotiate the price down a bit if I go 30-40 cabinets.... we'll see. First one has to be good before we get too excited.
