12" JBL speaker $29 on black friday at Bestbuy

Hey guys. For those of you looking for cheap/budget 12" subs for projects, best buy is going to be having the 4 ohm ones on special for black friday. I recently used a jbl gt5 10" for a project and I was surprised how good it is for the $$$.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/jbl-cx-...?skuId=8480035

Happy building!

From $129 to $29-that IS a Black Friday deal. I need a DVC for a 3.some cubic foot box...I have some single coil Alpines, not bad, but I wanted to drive from two unused channels of a receiver via 5.1 analog ins. (ya, a bit crude, I know, but the boxes were free)

haha, I did the same thing back in the days when I had a kenwood thx receiver that had preouts and pre in's. You gotta do what you have to do! These sound like they're down your alley then! Maybe two of them dual opposed in a smaller box. It would have been awesome if they had dvc's in your situation though.

Identical specs to the CS1214.

Looks like all JBL did is change the name in the technical sheet.

Only difference between the woofers is likely to be the dust caps.

if thats the case then thats a real DEAL

I built four of these and caught the avs forum fever and put 6 18s in my sub 1000 cu ft room.

after I came back to my senses I sold all the 18s and am now only using two of the jbl cs1214

plenty of rumble for all movies I watch

@eng-399

Can you throw up a model that’s ported to say 30 or 40hz? Wonder how these would work for MBMs.

That ported graph looks like it’s screaming for a higher tune.

Now I'll admit that seems like slight overkill for that size room. But how do you go from six 18's to two 12's and still feel ..satisfied? Just kidding, glad it worked out for you, the JBL's are great little drivers for the price.

I hear you. you can only go so loud on the bass before you kill the balance between the lows and everything else.

I like my hearing and want to still have it many decades from now so I dont listen loudly. the 6 18s were down at something like -12 db to be balanced with the main speakers so they were not being utilized. just a waste of space and money.

the 2 12s Im running at +4 but they keep up just fine.

A voice of reason! I have four of the old Infinity 1260's in ported boxes running on a single NU3000dsp and am completely satisfied.

The model for these JBL's is similar enough, just missing a couple db's in the low end.

Here is the JBL modeled for more music, or perhaps MBM duty. Porting higher than 30hz seems to make it very peaky and dropping volume really starts to curtail the low end.

(You guys are quick. I see 1201 just posted similar.)

shhh. that's heresy around these here parts. you need your subs flat to 2 hz and capable of 150db if you want to really feel the bass.

I'm running 4 of the 1260's in a 6cf box nearfield, and planning to switch out my single UM18 for an additional 3 ported sonotube 1260's tuned to around 19hz.....

Hoping that more subs spaced better = flatter more even response and the nearfield sealed will help with the ULF I was "in theory" getting from the Ultimax (but not in reality because I'm on a concrete slab).

I think moving from a 4 12's and a single 18 to 7 12's is a decent trade.... endgame is a 4 ported 1260's tuned to 19hz, and 8 x 12 nearfield sub in 10cf lol....

Problem is the 1260 and 1262's are getting harder and harder to find....

Why don't you move the UM18 nearfield and use the 4 X 12's you already have out into the room?
Good luck finding the Infinity's. Not sure if MoreisBetter kept his pile (32 drivers was it?). As he deemed them unworthy maybe he can spare a couple.

Not possible. The 1260s are nearfield BECAUSE they can handle a skinnier depth.

I already have 2 of the three additional ones I need and will have the third shortly....

Then I will buy extras as I see them lol....

I’m good at scrounging the web for things like that....

There are a couple on different CL within reach just need the cash to buy em and have my buddies nearby check em our and ship em to me.

I mean, there has to be a decibel goal in mind.

well, I guess technically not- you may just want to have x number of subs and I guess that's ok too.

Decibel goal is as loud as I can get it within what my what will allow. In all honestly, my endgame is a even response throughout the space with the 4 ported subs handling everything but ULF, and then the nearfield box "helping" where possible above tuning, but providing the ULF/tactile feel below the subs tuning through movement of the drivers, that energy transmitted to the sectional via the riser it will sit on.

I want to have MORE than I need, so I dont need to run the subs full tilt, or even at 1/2 their max wattage so I can keep the volume low and still achieve deep clean bass with lots of overhead in both the speakers and amps and very little distortion.

See end game floorplan below.

For now, sub 5 wont exist, and sub 4 is going to be 4 sealed 12's instead of a ported box, but it will be on the riser..

I was thinking about adding some but think I'm just going to add the other 2 submaximus v3s or 4 of the bc 21ds115. I do like the idea of near field it just messes up my site lines. Just hard when 8 of these cost barely anything.

Just bought 3

Not sure what I will use them for yet but got 3 based on what others here have said about them.

elnino2783 11-24-2017 08:05 AM

Could this sub be used to build a reasonably priced/sized sonosub that can do 20hz?

I'm really new to this stuff, and was hoping to get away with a build that's less than a few hundred dollars that can outperform anything in the $500 range.

I currently have none of the materials for a build, but have plenty of tools available.

Rcris 11-24-2017 04:52 PM

Bought a few of these today at BB, @LTD02 , @eng-399 : can you suggest a box for this driver something similar to Iclops
