DIYSG Speaker Recommendations¿?

Hello. I'm looking for some guidance on going DIY for my home theater. I recently sold off my Goldenear system and am looking to get into DIY for my home theater.

My plan is for a 3.1 system. I have a Rythmik LV12R subwoofer that I will be using. I may upgrade the subwoofer sometime in the future, but right now my concern is getting a nice LCR set up front.

The room is 22' x 11' x 7' tall.
Screen is 96" 2.35:1 (JVC HD350)
First row seating distance is 8 feet.
Yamaha RX-V777 receiver.

I would like the option to put the speakers behind an AT screen, which would also let me go with a bigger screen. This seems to lead to the HTM series. Are there any other DIYSG options that I should look at? Which one in the HTM series? I listen anywhere from -22 to -15 from reference level depending on the material. Also, the HTM-8 is due any day now.

I plan on purchasing in about a month which gives me some time to think things over.

Thanks.

I just built 2 Volt 10’s in the ported flat packs. They sound phenomenal. Makes me want to setup a system with 5 of these and a sub.

I am sure other models sound as good or better but for $200 a piece they would be hard to beat.

almost finished with a pair of titans but haven't tested them out yet. should be able to get them dialed in and wired up this weekend. I suspect they will do great. my subs are out of commission right now until my amps come in on friday. once i get those back up and running, i'll setup the titans instead of my current avantgarde trio omegas and do a comparison.

I really want to see how good they will perform compared to my megabucks speakers (which I clearly paid too much for - but damn do i love how they sound).

Volt-10 (95dB) & ported flatpack for $186

Fusion-10 (98dB) & ported flatpack $252

Those two are definitely hard to beat as far as bang-for-your-buck.

I still can’t get over how good my ported Volt 10’s sound. They sound great running full range with no sub with music.

Sounds like you need my HST-18 to pair up with them. I offer free delivery for you. . When's the next G2G?

Hey!

I seriously need to get the next GTG planned. I have been dragging my feet.

I built the Volt 10’s to use for my daughters B-day party. We are having it at the local recreation center because she wants to invite more kids than I want to have at our house. I have been designated as the DJ. I was going to take my JTR 212’s but they are too heavy to lug back and forth. The Volt 10’s will be used with my JTR Growler pair. Should make for some nice sound!

I am going to update my old GTG thread to see who would be interested in something late spring.

OP, I’m potentially coming out of a Goldenear system, too; did Erich give you recommends / did you order some LCR yet?

I’m loosely waiting to see what pricing and efficiency are on the HTM-8, may do LCR with those and 2 MBM’s to compliment my SI18 sonosubs.

I'm also waiting for the HTM-8 to hit. I'd really like to audition both the Volt 10, HTM-8, and HTM10.

I haven't talked to EricH yet.

The general advice by Eric H is to build the largest woofer design you can support OP (in your price range).
The advantage you gain with the larger woofer designs is a better reproduction of those frequency ranges as the driver is larger and it's easier to reproduce those ranges.
HTM 12 is what I'd go with in your position because you most likely have the space behind the screen.
Realistically, I'd only recommend a smaller HTM if budget/space was a concern.
Otherwise HTM 12.

I believe Titans work for AT screens too, but may be way more performance than you need judging by the fact that you care about the HTM 8 being released.

Anyone else calling shenanigans on the HTM-8? There are posts from the crustaceous period alleging its imminent release 🤦‍♂️🏻

Buckaman,
What are you using there for your insulation material around your speakers? Almost looks like a mattress pad with some type of cover. Just wondering out of curiosity. I would love to be able to put something up that's thick, and not pink fluffy because of the fiberglass... Thanks!

Yamaha Aventage 3060, 7.2.4

It was vinyl covered fiberglass baffles from acoustics first.
