Hang on........
I know an design and product engineer at Eminence. Since EricH has gotten them to build specific drivers for DIYSG in the past, maybe we could put 2 & 2 together and see what Eminence can come up with in an 18 or larger 😉

Dayton Ultimax Alternative

I’m interested in the higher end sub FI was taking to you about. I think it’s best if I talk to him first and see what the ts perms will be and a few other things. If he can beat in price and match or beat the performance of the HST 18 driver which is the goal then I’m on board.
The higher end driver has neo magnets and a different frame than the lsr frame I wonder if he would consider using that one?

I really want to see some ts perms first though

@Erich H
It seems like there has been talk of this for a very long time. In fact, I seem to remember one thread showing some Eminence built samples of woofers for Erich. I wonder if Eminence would be willing to try their hand at a high excursion subwoofer model.

Yes I have. This is straight from Scott the owner for the Fi SP4 18” HT edition:

I also asked about how much power to feed it.

His response:
I'm ok with tons of headroom in HT applications. Car guys just crank it more if they have it on tap.
2-5k depending on habits. 5kW for someone that knows their system well and is dialed in. Gives a fair amount of headroom.

Hope this helps.

Is there a price listed? Did he state whether a HT option will be available for his other 18's?

The SP4 18 is listed as $549, but doesn't show the HT option... but I'm sure they could do that.

The SSD NEO 18 shows the HT option and is listed at $409...

Price is the same as the standard SP4-18 $549.
As for the rest of the subs he sells, I don’t know. I didn’t ask him at the time about his other models.
He did say that his home theater subs website should be up soon.

I just asked Scott about the T/S parameters, and the price of the home theater version of the SSD series. He said it will be the end part of next week before he can start work on the dedicated version of that sub. He wants me to confirm that you all want a low FS on that sub? @eng-399 @JCJetta @EndersShadow and anyone else who knows about this stuff.

How are these subs compared to the SI MK lineup?

I don’t know. I haven’t heard either of them.
I was getting information to purchase subwoofers. I was thinking of doing something different than most (UM18-22). I am trying to decide between Fi, Phi, and B&C.

How are you choosing which Fi audio Sub?

They have so many?!
That Omega series Subwoofer lol....

well definitely interested in seeing how it goes if it's not a UM 18 build. Good luck!

I accidentally found Scott’s personal cell number via a google search for Pi and called him for information. Since, like you said, they have so many options. I told him what my goals were and he suggested the SP4 HT version. I wanted a sub better than the UM18 and on par with the SI HST18. The SP4 looks like it could be close to a HST18 but I haven’t modeled it yet. I will post results when I get back home.

yes a lower FS is great but higher is workable as long as other stuff falls into place....

We all want a driver with low inductance, a strong motor like somewhere around 250 or higher would be good 200 ish is good depending on mms if it's low

cms can be higher because these drivers aren't playing one note wonders in cars so the suspension doesn't need much restriction. This will also drop fs as cms increases. cms= compliance, as it increases, it means the suspention is softer.
The lower mms increases fs, but the higher cms will reduce it.

low mms is important as it makes the driver more efficient

le:re ratio should be <1, the lower the better

mms below 500 would be ok around 400 would be better

Can FI use a different frame like the LMS motor something to ask if so how much more?

btw thanks Rob via the email for help on this

Dayton Ultimax Alternative

I really want to see one finished with posted TS perms before buying the more expensive driver due to the cost. PS1 emailed one thing and we got something different which wasn't bad at all but different than promised.

Fi just posted this on Facebook not good for company's that use these drivers....

Got some info from Scott on the lower line HT sub. I’ll just post the text below. These are the two that I bought and not the higher end ones that others have been talking about here.

That will work out fine for the Inuke6kDSP. Just run them in stereo.

Just need some T/S data and let the WinISD wizards do their thing.

At his 299 price, assuming its similar model wise to the Ultimax.... he better be ready for the onslaught of orders lol...

Their is really nothing in this price range that can compete that isnt Dayton. And even the Dayton stuff in the 300 dollar range still is Dayton lol

I think I’m going to buy the 299$ driver from FI and test it. If it’s what they say it’s going to be then this driver will be between the um18-22 and uxl even though the uxl has 6 more mm of xmax. I’ll call FI on Monday and see if it’s possible to have that 299$ driver have 30 mm of xmax. If possible man where going to have some competition between some company’s because of price vs performance. I have my Dayton Audio DatV2 ready to measure these.

I'd love to find out too. The posted T/S spec's gave me some weird stuff in WinISD and I'd like to see how it does in a horn too.

So does this mean that the Soundqubed and the Crescendo subs are not contenders then or have you just not had the chance to model them yet?

So does that mean Fi is no longer selling subs to JTR? Or is that not considered OEM sales?

Had an email chat with Mark from mach5 audio & he said that the IXL-18, which they are revamping & will be out soon, will be a similar match to the UM-18. It's about a month away.

I looked at the UXL-18, but it looks like a poor match for the huge 18 cu. ft. box I've got built for a UM-18
