DYI Help - Connections Speakon

Hey guys,

New DYI'er here. I just picked up a Dayton Ultimax 15" sub a Behringer iNuke1000 DSP and I will be ordering a flat pack and the wiring components.

I'm completely new to XLR and Speakon. I have a Marrantz 6012 with dual RCA pre-out for LFE. Anyone want to point me to the right direction on what I need to convert the RCA pre to connect to the amp and the remainder of wiring needs. I will be bridging it into mono.

Thanks!

XLR Male to RCA Male Cable for amp input
You'd have to make or by your speakon cables. There are countless threads and postings detailing this info. Just do a forum search or google search. It appears you have a lot of reading to do.

Can also do 1/4" to RCA for amp input.

its confusing at first but it makes sense quickly.

Do I have to go to XLR? The amp input is speakon and I’m guessing it’s 2 pole.

Also, is the bridging internal or is it done with cables?

" with combo XLR and 1/4" TRS inputs"

https://www.parts-express.com/parts-...apter--090-285

You can use that for the input with a sub/LFE/rca cable. Then you need to buy a 4 pole *speakon* cable and wire it up 1+ and 2+ to brige the amp. The 4 pole xlr has 1+ 1- 2+ 2-, you just connect to what the amp says to bridge.

Use that with some good quality speaker wire to go to your driver.

The inputs are not Speakon. The Berrie’s inputs will accept a 1/4" plug in the center of the XLR jacks. An RCA to 1/4" cable will probably be cheaper than RCA to XLR male cable.

The amp’s output uses Speakon connectors, not XLR.

OP, if you buy an off-the-shelf Speakon, it will have to be wired 1+ and 2+ (most are wired 1+ and 1-). If you can’t find one like that, it’s easy to make you own with a pair of NL-4 connectors and speaker wire cable stock. Speakons work best with round pro-audio cable stock like this than the flat zip-cord speaker wire normally used for home audio.

Good stuff guys. I was not aware that the center could use a jack.

Correct me if I’m wrong but to bridge the Behringer I have to combine the channel A and B into one output that goes to a speakon connection to the speaker cabinet. I would wire the 2 voice coils to the speakon essentially in series. That would be an alternative to wiring the positive of one coil the the negative of the other.

I’m almost tempted to return the Behringer and go with a plate amp.

This what I’m thinking is needed.

That may not be exactly but a male 4 pole Speakon.

Thanks.

No you just input to input A and then bridge output A with the 4 pole speakon to 1+ 2+ and it will bridge the amp. Or else its input/output B, I cant remember exactly how mine is setup but I bridge it with one output.

I think there's some youtube videos of how to do it.

Ok, verify and let me know. I’m still a few days out but I’d like to make a one shot order and start building.

It’s still just 2 wires from the output of the amp to the sub, correct and then series the two voice coils?

Yes, two wires, voice coils in series. Cheaper connectors with free shipping here:
