21" drivers with high excursion

Hi,

what 21" with high (linear) excursion do you know?

In order to displace the same volume as a 18" driver with 19 mm Xmax the 21" needs 14 mm Xmax.

What 21" drivers with more than 14 mm Xmax do you know?

Greetings

Thank you, the B&C thread gave me the idea

I haven't heard of the Incriminator before and couldn't find any TSP. Do you happen to know them?

Pierce Audio in WA has a few 21"s that will definitely exceed 14mm.

Thx. I am no expert, but it only has a 3" voicecoil, which seems too small compared to the 4" voice call its competiors have.

I believe they customise each driver based on your specific application, so you would need to contact them to get specific details (for example car audio SPL targeted specs will prob differ from a home theater focused unit)

No offence to the company, but I would have to import it and if there is any problem with the custom built speakers I am screwed...

The 21DS115 seems pretty good, but are there no mass produced drivers with a little more Xmax?

I found the thread...

Thats nothing for me. If the drivers were well build and people had positive experinces with the manufacturer then maybe, but that is too much of a risk...

+ You need a crane to move it around....

The B&C 21s are more pro-audio focused and designed to be pretty bulletproof with huge power inputs, and high sensitivity. Pretty much all the HT focused 21s have more excursion for ultra deep bass.

But if all the HT ones are custom built, then it is to great of a risk for me...

Why a 21"??
Look at StereoIntegrity... They make 24's and not a lot of risk (his drivers are very well made, and Nick stands behind his products - I am a biased owner of a pair of HS24's)

I haven't even considered 24".

But SI is too expensive for me. The may be great, but way too powerful. I was looking more in the 500-600$ price range
E: Is Nick here in the forum as well? Because his 18" look interesting.

Nick's HST-18 has an Xmax around 38mm. That puts out far more than a 21" with a 15mm Xmax. They are on sale. It's in your price range.

http://stereointegrity.com/product/hst18-18-subwoofer/

EDIT: One thing to consider is that these pro drivers you are asking about are built for efficiency above 20hz but not home theater deep bass. To dig deep, you will need a seriously huge box in comparison to such an 18". The B&C 21's have stronger motors and light cones in comparison.

It would be far more efficient for us to help you if you give more information about your goals/constraints rather than give reasons why each suggestion doesn't work for you.

Nick is on the forums, @Electrodynamic
Nick is a great guy to deal with, drop him a line and see what he has to say...
He may have other (not currently listed) options for you too.....

High excursion drivers tend to suck at mid-bass and thus chest-kick.

Pro drivers tend to suck at ULF.

There is no free lunch.
You'll need lots of both if you desire serious bass.

I own 24's 21's 18's and 15's all in the same room at the same time.

The 24's make everything else look like toys... just sayin'

I could only imagine the 32's...

Deep bass, mid-bass, it's all easily accomplished with the right interconnects.

Or just get a 10" servo sub like Danny Ritchiie says. All these oversized plywood boxes are a waste

Hi,

thx for all the answers (every now and then I think I come off to Canadian for this forum )

What I want: Lots of displacement for very little money (max. 450 $ - I forgot about shipping costs and taxes/customs).

I see the UM 18 as kind of a benchmark, since it has great performance for a reasonable price.

I have space for a 22 " wide/high box with 20" in depth. 24" would be acceptable, but the drive would have to be worth it.

Since the subwoofers will be between furniture, there is no space for a vented design (also the vents would take up to much enclosue volume).

Greetings

I will take a look at it.

But basically it all comes down to the displaced volume and the electrial durability of the driver. So if you have a good alternative to large drivers, feel free to name it
