What do we have here.........An FP20000Q

I’ve really been pushing my two 20Q’s for a while now. Still I haven’t seen a clip light, so I know there is more in the tank. Just wondering, has anyone seen their amp clip? Will it indicate clipping without blowing channels? Not sure how much further I can go, lighting up the -4 led consistently and it stays solid a lot. Just nervous. Still getting used to these beasts coming from inukes. And those I could clip easily, and have to turn down the gain. Any thoughts?

Get two more and have some headroom or, just enjoy letting the smoke out. I’m running a bunch of sealed cabs and it’s very easy to light up the amps, but, I still don’t have enough electric to max them out. Still if you’re lighting the -4 light solid more amps and maybe more subs depending on the situation?

Well nothing is smoking. Not the drivers and not the amps. Yet. That’s basically my question. As long as the no smoking policy is observed I’ll just keep things as is. I measured 127db on the barrel roll scene and that was sustained for the whole bass hit. I guess that’s enough.
Then I put the vases and pictures back where they came from upstairs.

In restaurants they usually screw the picture frames directly to the wall. Maybe do that and add a few pounds of buckshot to the vases?

When the smoke turns from white to the magic blue smoke, then back off 5V or so.

I've clipped mine. But not with all channels driven, just with 1 channel driven.

All clones have two clip lights: VPL and CPL.
CPL is orange and VPL is red if I recall.

-10db is 10% power. The other 90% of the power is made on the -4db LED.
Annoying I know... and the clones have very good trees, many amps are FAR worse in that regard. (Like -10db only etc.)

The clones have a big 5th gear, that is completely normal and expected.

Will the subwoofers or amplifiers survive being clipped is a whole other question...
and there is only ONE way to find out! (The hard way...) hehe!

If you can't clip it, then we may have to revoke your basshead card... hehe!

This is what a clipped fp20k sounds like:
Note: 20hz sinewave 8-ohm sealed, 1 channel driven.

Which is not how I normally drive it.
I normally do quad 4-ohm, 1 driver per channel.
Which is 4x the power...
Which = dead woofers! = Excellent Smithers!!!

I'm literally dead by the time all 9 amplifiers tickle -4db. It's FULL Potato.
With 3 amplifiers off, and only 4 amps barely tickling the -10db led's, I'm hitting 130db @ 2m...

Thanks. This helped me a lot. I think we’ve had this conversation before, but I get it this time. So I need to revise my previous statement. I am not pushing my amps hard then. I’m just somewhere in 5th gear. I could try and up the gains to see how much room I actually have, but can I take it? Things are getting close to scary in my little basement.
To answer my own question then, I’m good. The -4 light doesn’t mean I’m maxing out the amp. Just that I’m getting closer to clipping, which I’ve never seen. The hst’s take that power very well. Even ported as they are, I’m not scared. Excursion is getting up there, but no weird sounds or smells yet! Just to keep my bass head card, I will see the amber light. Just not gonna rush it. And because I’ve not seen the clip light, I am gonna say, wow. These really are powerful amps.

If you are at -4db, then you only have 4db left in the tank to "get louder" with.
More electrical db's don't always translate into more acoustical db's though (because: heat and phase and nulls), realistically you probably have less than 4db left.

The last 2 LED's are independent of each other.
You can have red with no orange, or orange with no red, or both lit. All 3 are clipped.

3db requires about ~40% more excursion to handle without bottoming out unsafely.
