This is looking good. Fits in my space perfectly, better than the DEV LFE. It is a serial 8th order bandpass. Climb should make it close to flat with room gain.

You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

Exactly! Where is the 3rd port? Is it a BP8S where the thickness of wood is the middle port?

It does not look as good since I was using my given to me laptop for running the CAD software, there are two square ish shaped ports on the baffle wall. There was not room for a slot port in there with the driver being a 21". Height does include the horizontal divider.

Thanks! I will try to get more detailed info together over lunch. I have a few little tweaks left yet. When I get that together can you double check my math? I did most of this with a teething toddler going nuts so it was hard to focus lol.

I'm checking out your BP8S model. The 1 and 3 port velocities look high. Will the bandpass crossovers lower the speeds?

I forgot which one comes in just under 25m/s the best one is sitting at 22m/s. A 2nd order HPF at 21Hz should keep it in check.
Excursion sits at 20mm with the lossy Le enabled.

Exclamation

Here is your model. I bumped the power to 1,700 watts since that's what you said was required. As you can see, the port velocities get high near the tuning frequencies. I'm concerned about shuffling at high volumes.

All of your ports should be at least 1/3 of Sd.
1680cm2/3 = 560cm2.
Port 2 needs to be bigger.

That was PureNV shooting for 1700 watts. This one is assuming a Nuke hitting 1500 watts into the load for a couple milliseconds. RMS is more in the 1200 range if not closer to 1100 watts.

Going through a full page of math checks from the CAD, I found a few errors but all things should be correct now.

Heck yeah!!! I know you have worked your rear off designing the Decimator. All the sims, tweaking it, and re-drawing it. Great job.... now get to building the darn thing.

Changes have been made to the post up there already. I made the length of the port rails on the front go all the way down, only .85 liters and lesser chance of resonance with that large of an area. I have to come up with a cut list and see what I need for 2x4"s. It will be 3 sheets of MDF and probably 5 2x4"s is my educated guess. A buddy is giving me his kids old play ground since they are too old for it, that will probably become the project I have to do before this build.

@BP1Fanatic the two highlighted numbers on the roar, are those always constant small finite values to be used? I get the length of port being used as the length of the resonator and the cross sectional area since it is non flaring and stays constant. The 2nd chamber is just a Helmholtz resonator and the port controls the pass band for the most part.

Get a little 6.5 and throw it in there

The ROAR... if a Helmholtz resonator gets long enough it acts like a QW? Could I really get crazy and couple this in with an 8th order series? I have started sketching ideas down Would it even matter that much for a 21DS115? The suspension on it is strong... I saw dampening is better on a QW vs a Helmholtz. I am mostly thinking for music, but if I build Titans some day with dual 15s, the sub would not be needed at all for music reinforcement.

For some reason l, I thought MMJ modeled his ROAR with the TH function, Vrc, Lrc, Ap, and Lpt.

Anyways, Vc1 & Lc1 have to be minimal in that model because Ap1 & Lp1 are the front volume and port together.

Correct. That's how MMJ describes his ROAR.

Seeing how David McBean has added BP5 & BP7 to HR and seeing your BP8 sketches, I thought about a TH8 or THBP8S???

I got a sim look pretty decent already for the 21DS115 6BPS. Response is a little flat, I would need to tweak it more or try an 8BPS?!?!

Thumbs up

I read on diyaudio.com that you can get away with smaller ports with BP6S & BP8S than BP6P & BP8P. I would stick with no smaller than 1/3 of Sd with any vented enclosure though.

Sony XBR65x900e / STR-DN1080 / original PS4 / WOW! Ultra TV / Quantum Access Mini PC Stick w/Windows 10 / 8 x Rockville SPG88 8“ DJ PA Speakers / Dayton Audio SA1000 / Kicker 08S15L74 in a Tapped-Tapered Quarter Wave Tube (negative flare tapped horn).

That would be a lot of redesign work. I know someone with a Devastator, he likes it and that is only running 362.9cm on the rear chamber vent.

You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

It will be a bit before I can start. There are 24 MDF pieces and 22 pieces of 2"x4" ouch.
