So far so good. I did send you and @Eric H a couple of PM's and if you could respond I would appreciate it. I need to send some pics to @Eric H for the website. Not that he doesn't need a few more black 1099's lol. At least mine are with high gloss enamel and not the other materials most people have been using.
Didn’t you build 1299s? Must have changed your plans.

I’ll check my PM box but I don’t see a notification.

I did change my plans. Unfortunately I don’t believe I can change the title.

If you can’t find the PM I will send it again.

@Mike Lang any chance you can change my thread topic from 1299 to 1099? I went a different direction on the speaker build and don’t want to falsely draw people in looking at 1299’s.

Thanks!

Need advice and design help on the DIYSG 1099's

@blister64 @Archaea , @BCRSS Is it bad that I am already thinking about adding more subs and volt10v2’s?
@LTD02 If I add two more subs specifically for near field. What would be a great driver to get knowing I already have two u18-22’s. Should I just get two more? In the following pics the flanking boxes are 36x24x25 (lxwxh) roughly 12cf internal before bracing and sub vol loss. The smaller boxes on top are the volt10v2’s

Maybe I am just bored and need to enjoy what I have lol. No f’n way!!

I’d be tempted to build a little riser for the couch with some full size buttkickers in it like @Luke Kamp , or some subwoofers firing up directly into the butts of the seat like @Scott Simonian .

I’m personally not a fan of nearfield subs that are off to the side because the feel is directional. (And the sound is too if you cross them over high enough). But a lot of people do it and like it — so maybe I’m just being picky. Any rate I like the options I suggest better than nearfield subs on the side of the seating.

If you want to feel a full size Buttkicker on a riser hit Luke’s house in Olathe for a demo and ask him to play the Edge of Tomorrow intro with and without the buttkicker.

Dang! Wish I would have asked him about that when I was there. I did like his Buttkickers they did add a lot of tactile feel.

Will your seating be a couch or sofa? If so how much room behind it? You could possibly get some thing behind it. Or build some end table subs to hid the subs.
If you can mount the Volt 10's a tad higher than on the subs.

@BCRSS the seating will be a 4 piece section that looks like a long couch. The way its configured now the subs would act like end tables. I can always put the surrounds on small stands to get them higher.

Two matching subs is always easiest to get to play nicely together. Could change form factor but I would keep same cu. ft. and tune with UM 18 and another inuke6k. This way can gain match so subs playing equally and no worries about phase differences between tunes/alignments. If not long, less depth enclosures for behind the seats, maybe build enclosures with drivers all way as close to rear wall as possible. If subs behind couch could always build some coax towers with lower tune for side surrounds or just build them a bit taller to get height how desired to set on side tables.

It would be helpful for acoustics (and probably that dip 70_100 hz) if you can get the couch off rear wall. Probably having boundary cancellation. Usual optimal distance is 1/3rd way off rear wall to front wall for bass. I dont know if even possible, but from mock up of room you may get better performance if you moved front sound stage to what is now your left wall with behind your seating then being open to the kitchen. Could possibly even put in a bar/eating ledge behind seating with built in near field subs like what Doug/d_c has in his basement theater with additional seating. That should keep you busy for a while. If not maybe work on some room treatments/ bass traps?

Welcome to stop by anytime to play with buttkicker riser. Really just showing you the 1099's when you stopped by last time. No where near limits of subs or riser were reached, nust my normal viewing levels. Big fan of crowsons like carp has, even though pricey. Two of those on rear feet of couch would be great. Just throwing out some of my opinions.

I also found my BK-CMAK couch mounting accesory kit for the Buttkicker LFE you can have if you go that route. I am not using it as I have the bk bolted directly to the riser run off inuke 3kdsp.

This may be the route to go. I was hesitant to use those with the corner and L shape of the sectional, but if I remove the corner and go 4 across I could put one of those on each sectional seat. Still go with the volts for the surrounds. will need to pull back some carpet to get the sub(s) or buttkicker LFE signal back to the couch and the surround speaker wire. Hmmm....My hope was for some more midbase punch with the new subs though...

Wanting more midbass will have to fix acoustics/room, move seat, or add near subs closer to rear boundary than your head in mlp. You have speaker boundary cancellation from front wall and back wall (your head is about same distance off back wall as your speakers/subs are off front wall). Your left channel speaker measured the worst as its almost the same distance from side wall and has cancellations from front, side, and rear wall and after audyssey still had a dip of well over 10 dB. I think this along with modal issues is causing the suckout of midbass from the graphs you showed me and the reason you are crossing over 1099 at ~110 hz.

http://www.acousticfrontiers.com/wha...-interference/

Near field subs closer to the rear wall than your head will fill this in and greatly increase feel being close to the driver. However you will hear the 80-110 hz playing 10 dB+ louder than your front subs and speakers that are having room acoustic problems.

Definitely like getting the surrounds down lower. And more sub's can't hurt anything! I can't speak to how nearfield sounds next to you vs behind you, but I think you would have the room to move your couch up 18-24 inches and have the subs behind with no problems. And sounds like it would help with some other sound aspects as well! Just depends on if you want to move your couch up or not. And I'd definitely just go with a few more UM18s if you add them.

@LTD02 I’m probably not missing much. That 80hz dip would be nice to eliminate. I want to bring the surrounds down out of the ceiling and put them on the floor. Figured I would build some more subs to use as sidetables when I move my room around (see pictures posted above.

Maybe I should just be happy with what I have. Lol

Need advice and design help on the DIYSG 1099's

Built my four absorption panels today. Took advantage of the amazing 63 degree January weather. I added 45 degree bevels and will add screen mesh like the last photo underneath the image. The back will also get black fabric. To finish the look.

Here are the images and the panels.

I'm a huge fan of air gaps behind them, but in this kind of setting, I understand why there aren't any (or much).

Looks good Just keep that insulation from falling forward or sagging and you will have some nice panels for sure.

Good job.

Thanks! Yeah I anticipate an air gap around the 1.5-2” once I install the z-clips and some offset rubber bumpers. I am using window screen to hold the r80 back but it is really ridged. I will also install black felt on the backs. I just put that one on the wall to see how it looked. It’s not centered just threw up there.

Need advice and design help on the DIYSG 1099's

Finished the first of four absorption panels. The total depth from front to wall is 4”. Here are a couple of pics.

The following are pics of the corners. Turned out well:

Here is the finished panel. I also used black felt in the back to completely enclose the R80

Here is the pic of the panel on the wall. Love it!

Nice job on the posters. Mine have made a big difference plus they add some flair in the room.

Yeah it’s going to be interesting when I get all four up and see if there is a difference. What did you notice sound wise?

My room sounded like I was talking in a garbage can. Full of echo's and shallow sounding. Once all my posters were hung, they deaden the room. So much so that a friend of mine who wears 2 hearing aids made the comment that voices were crystal clear and back ground chatter was not a problem talking to other people in my room. This background chatter he said was always the worst type of interference when talking since it was hard to discern who was actually talking.
