I have a couple of empty boxes that have a cutout for a 15” and now I want to drop in an 18” for no good reason. The boxes are 7.5 cuft tuned at 18hz (dual 4” ports 23(?) inches long) that were designed for a Dayton 15” HF.
1. My very first thought was if I put in a bigger driver will my ports keep up without chuffing?
2. Because these would be subwoofer number 5 and 6 for the rear of my room and would be more of a room filler sub is there a 18” sub you could recommend?
I already have two f-20’s up front and two VBSS nearfield so I’m thinking that ultimax’s would be super over kill (?) which means I guess I’m looking for maybe a more affordable driver that does not sacrifice sound quality too much.

How about the Dayton HO series. They work better in that size box compared to the Ultimax.

A PA460 would work in that box pretty well, it would be similar to VBSS performance.

I disagree. They appear to work about the same in the size box according to WinISD modeling.
