JK’s 893 build with subs

I picked up a set of 893’s with flat packs for my next project! I also grabbed up 2 of the buy out 15’s from @Erich H to build and go with them. Looking forward to the results of this build. I talked my wife into letting me build these for the living room. She’s obviously seen all of the speakers I’ve built. From htm-6’s to the mighty Titans. So she wasn’t immediately excited about the idea. But once i explained these are smaller-ish, she agreed. Enough about that. THE PLAN:
893 L and R with horizontal center. Nothing too fancy. Just flat packs and a veneer. Black baffles. I have the PCB’s for the crossovers. Thanks to @mtg90 . Ill post pics along the way. Each main will sit on top of a sub.
Subwoofers- the 15” buyout subs with 14mm x-mass and 1200 watts max power handling. @eng-399 is looking at my box ideas and helping me model cab size, slot or round ports, and power requirements. Ill build the cabs and veneer to match the speakers. Still deciding on an inuke NX3000D or using one plate amp, and setting up a master/slave arrangement for the cabs. These drivers are 8ohms so wiring in parallel to 4 is a must.
That’s the plan i will update this thread and hopefully end up with a great living room setup.

Very nice setup you have there for the family room. I’ll take a look today at winisd and see what works for the subs. What tune did you want again 25-30hz. I worked on this tune already will round ports let’s see how a slot port looks like.

It’s all good thanks. Whenever you have time. I’ve got some time yet.
Yeah 25-30 is good. Keeping it lower would be better, as long as it doesn’t cripple the Fq response. Thanks Mike!

Using a 4” round port you get this. Instead of texting you all this which I will I figured guys want to see how these look on winisd.

Two drivers together max spl

I’m thinking slot port for the win. Easier then dealing with the elbows and buying precision ports.

JK’s 893 build with subs

After consulting with Mike, my sub cabs will be 20 wide, 24 tall, and 18” deep. 2” slot port by 17” wide. 36” long. Port volume takes up just over 1 cf of the cab. So with 3cf space in the box, tune will be very close to 25hz. This will work out perfect for the living room. Thanks mike you have given me a great start. This graph shows why ported is a better option then sealed for me.

Those 893s should make for a nice front stage for a living room. I’m kicking myself for not getting 3 for my living room’s LCR, even more so now that I have the new boxes running my subs, these old Infinity’s ain’t cutting it. Lol

Update your sub build thread! I’ve been wondering if you got that project done.

so happy to see these parts getting put together finally! Kinda sad that they sat in boxes for multiple years in my basement. Luckily the sale has funded my foray into building some 18 inch sub enclosures instead (which I needed more than mains).

I am excited to hear these. I see a renewed interest in this speaker. There are other threads talking about another run of these. Once I have them up and running I’m gonna try and have a few members over to take a listen. Hopefully they can comment on the sound too. Thanks again for the sale. I know you were worried about the packaging making it another shipping round, but it was packed by the master. It was just like it was packed that week.

I'm looking forward to your build.Interested to see how they work with the subs your building.

I recently finished(if you call raw MDF finished) a set of 893's.I'm waiting until spring to veneer them.I wanted to get them for a long time.I thought I waited too long but Erich found some parts to make up three kits.

I'm using them with two 18" Ultimax drivers in sealed boxes but I'm thinking of going with something ported.I can't go much larger though since they are in our living room.

Do you know what veneer you will be using?

Yeah. I’m gonna use parts express walnut. I love the look. Here’s pics of 1299s and 1099s I veneered with it.

JK’s 893 build with subs

That recess on the back looks really nice. Not needed obviously but a really nice touch anyway.

Gonna keep them true to form (and sealed), or go ported?

Keeping them sealed. I have the flat packs so gonna use them. Erich has baffles with no roundover so I can veneer. Just waiting on them to ship.

Cool. Gonna raise the height on the Left/Right any or just go total stock?

And same w driver arrangement. I’ve seen folks tweak em to be TMWW....

Sorry I’m just stupid curious.....

No changes at all. Just totally stock design. The hard part has been done for me so I’m just gonna keep it simple and build! I’m ready for some mdf dust in my nose though for the subs.
