Definitely. It's always friendly ribbing though. We are a house divided. Some of my family and most of my in-laws family are Spartans. They've got a great team this year. Fun to watch for sure.

1 week countdown!
Looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones in person.

Today’s task, before 8:30pm MSU game, get these acoustic panels up.
Wrapping 101, speaker grille cloth and pins on backside

Each will be on 3 point mounting, exactly like this rear one.

Should absorb down into 600hz

Air gap via block of wood

Now off to cutting 6 blocks, the straps to hold the panels, mounting the straps, figuring out where to mount the panels, yada-yada

Later today I’ll be sending all attendees my address and contact info via PM

Win-win. 2-ch room for gtg, and also me as my escape room... it will evolve more

Ready for 3 people

Simple wood brackets, only 1 screw into wall stud, gives air gap and ability to move acoustic panel forward / rearward

There will be panels behind both speakers to mitigate sbir notch

Anyone willing to put holes in the wall and hang acoustic panels just for a GTG is setting the bar pretty high for everyone else. Looking Good!

Sad to hear that, sucks when work takes priority over a hobby , gotta pay the bills!

During my lunch hour today I’m sending to each person a PM on the gtg details, address, etc.

Saturday is 3 days away!
Looking forward to this audio gtg, and seeing and hearing all the great diy products you guys have made.
Look over the below, if I've forgotten anything post it here and we can address it as needed.

Food;
Mike will provide Pizza, salad, bread sticks, bottled water, paper plates / cups / utensils
If your b-day is January thru June ... bring a bev to share
If your b-day is July thru Dec ... bring a light snack to share

List of diy speakers being brought:
Mike - has HTM-8's & 6's, Volt-10's, Fusion-8 TM and MTM (including center channel)
Jared - bringing HTM-6's and 893's
JC -bringing HTM-12's and Volt-6's
Brian - bringing Helix Dome MT's, HT-8's
Scott - bringing HTM-10’s
Bob - bringing Fusion 12's

Demo method/material:
Jared has Dolby Atmos demo disc, Mike has Auro3D demo disc (8500H can play if back) and Blu-ray AVS scuba steve demo disc.
If you have some good demo disc/scene bring that and we can also play it, after all it's everyones gtg!

Media Players are as follows
1st floor family room:
My Xbox 1s for CD's/Blu-Ray/UHDBR, Denon 4300H for USB flash drive

Basement HT:
My Xbox 1x for CD's/Blu-Ray/UHDBR, Denon 8500H for USB flash drive

2-ch basement room:
Scott will bring his laptop and music collection to plug into the Denon 4308CI in there

My speaker cables are on banana plugs, easy to swap if yours accepts them.
Brian is bringing a few extra speaker stands.

The basement HT will be the Home Theater mindset comparisons.
HTM-6/8/10/12, HT-8, Volt-6's, other.
Front soundstage the HTM 8/10/12 comparisons
Surrounds HT-8/HTM-6/Volt-6's - compare to adaptive dipoles for impressiveness.

The Family room will be the Fusion 8 MTM vs 893 vs Helix Dome vs "other" comparisons

The basement bedroom will be the 2-ch comparisons;
Fusion-8 vs Fusion-12 vs Paradigm Mini-monitors vs ?
(anyone have a "spare" small sub, say a 10" or 12" with plate amp, or those will be only the speaker itself)

The basement bedroom is separated from the Home Theater so with it's door closed it will be ok for listening.
The family room is directly above the HT so we may have to temper the spl of both at times ...

Brian has a good 1-page subjective sheet for people to use, pass that out to attendees and ask them to self score.
Then, we will have a easel with a big sheet on it to gather overall impressions, etc.
>>Keeping it all fun, yet gathering subjective data consensus

REW ??
Jared has two laptops loaded with rew and two mics that we could use to measure speakers ... do we want to do that?
I'm open to what the group wants to do ...

People bringing speakers will come over 1+ hour "early", then we can do pre-gtg calibrations and save each to smartphone/ipad.
If we swap speakers on the fly, which will happen, the speaker distances will be in each AVR, key is setting spl "same" at consistent mlp for comparisons to have meaning.

Possible For sale speakers:
(no pricing in this thread, keep to PM's or gtg discussions)
Bob's Fusion 12's?
Mike's rear Volt-10's
Maybe Mike's Fusion-8 TM's

I, for one opinion, don't feel the need for a subwoofer in a 2 Chn "listen off" Mike. Let the speakers do the work, I think we all know what good sub(s) will add to the experience.

Mike,
Has anyone commented on using rew at this gtg? If no one has said that they really think we would benefit from that, it would be easier to skip it. Use more time actually listening? Let me know, I can always bring at least one laptop if someone really wants to measure a certain pair of speakers.

I can bring my CSL UMIK-1 as well, if we want to get measurements. I will say that taking measurements of every setup will take some time, and I agree that it may be easier to not take them.

If a high pass is used for all speakers, maybe this would work. Otherwise, whichever speaker has the lowest extension is going to likely sound the best assuming they are all decent speakers. So maybe high pass them all at 80Hz without a sub, otherwise I think crossing to subs would make more sense. Dunno, without sub might be easier as far as level matching the sub with speakers of differing efficiciencies etc.

With only a 3-4 hour GTG you guys have way too much on your plate before even trying to measure anything.

I'm busy this Saturday which is why I haven't posted earlier. Have fun.

Personally, I would rather hear each on a "raw" level. It would allow me to hear the benefits each has to offer. Each will have their qualities/deficiencies that people's AVR's can modify, to some point (based on room/positioning). Yes, some will hit better on the low end, but we're really looking for the overall experience of the speaker, no?

Not discounting your approach, just my opinion.

4/13 SE Mich gtg ; F8 MTM, F8 TM, HTM-8, HTM-6, 893's, other..

Agree with 4 -5 hours measurements is biting off too much for all setups. The speakers have been measured by diysg designers already.
However, having 1 laptop and mic is a good thing, just in case there’s a specific combo we feel should be measured at some point. Jared can you support that?
I’ve got a spare long hdmi cable for plugging into the front AVR hdmi slot if needed..Jared I’ll call your cell later today to chat gtg stuff.

Also agree on no sub needed for 2-ch room, will simplify that. We can do both direct as full range and say 80hz as small, fool the AVR by saying a sub is there but none will be.

I put 8pm ish as end time, I’m open for later 9-9:30 as people gave time and effort to support pulling this off, in other words I won’t take a broom out and hit a gong , well until midnight , then this 56 year old gets tired .

To expand a bit on Mike's first post:

Scott is in his mid-50s so his music preferences may not match the other attendees' tastes. Please feel free to bring songs you are familiar with, the laptop can handle USB, CD or DVD.

(Not sure why I felt the need to refer to myself in the 3rd-person there... )

Looking forward to tomorrow!
