I bought 6 JBL GX1200s, have a Crown 1502 to power them, and have 2 Q Power HD12 triples coming; what's the best way to wire them up for maximum effect? Not too familiar with electrical wiring other than the basics.

Thanks

I can't wait to see the first 144 sub array (12 x 12 12" subs). I'm counting on you guys.
My Atmos heights have 64 Dayton woofers in them. Does that count?

and it uses a quad 4x4 "magic square" wiring and layout.

The author does say that 6 speaker combinations are bad, but does not specify why that is. You could also do 4 @ 4ohms plus 2 @ 8 (or 2) ohms. Please remember that some sort of DSP is pretty much mandatory with this setup.

Where: p = (1/((1/Ω) * n)) -- { parallel wiring }
and: s = p * n -- { serial wiring }

Yields:

(1/((1/Ω) * n)) * n = (n / ((1/Ω) * n)) = 1 / (1 / Ω) = Ω

First, thanks for the detailed instructions. It's an immense help as I put together my own JBL subs.

Second, Amazon has R534 weatherstipping. You linked to R538 on ebay. Is the difference in R-values something worth worrying about?
EDIT -- Never mind. Home Depot has the same one that you linked for half the price of Amazon. I drive right past Home Depot on my way to work. Thanks again.

Please let us know how everything works out.
And, as you discovered, you're not using the foam for temperature insulation but for sound insulation.

I remember seeing More is Better's stack of 32 Infinity 12's back when they were discontinued and I was scouring Canada to find a measly 4 drivers for my theater.
They model slightly better than JBL's for ported enclosures which is what I was after. Ended up with 6 (4 in the theater and 2 for the car) and have been completely happy.
There have been a few active members suddenly vanish over the years. I thought Scott Simonian had joined the list but I see he is posting again. Over the years he has built an insane trailer park wall of bass.
At what point does the obsession become unhealthy?

Welcome to the club, though I see you're no stranger to this insanity.
I notice the 6000 does not have DSP. Do you have a miniDSP in the mix?
Once the stuff arrives, you're really just an easy weekend or one long day from being done.
Enjoy, and keep us posted.

Lastbutnotleast I do already have a miniDSP 4X2HD so I'm good there. I figured if I liked it(sic) I could snag 9 more the next time they go on sale for the other channel. It seems I may have been infected with the "virus" haha.

[QUOTE=LastButNotLeast;57836810][SIZE=3]Inspired by this:

and unable to resist this:

https://www.avsforum.com/forum/155-d...y-bestbuy.html

and not having the skill, time, patience, or tools for a real DIY project, I came up with this:

Hi Michael - would you mind explaining the wiring a bit? Which terminals do you wire your amp to? I just got my 3 hole Qpower boxes and am getting ready to wire up my magic square but I want to be sure I get it right. Thanks for your help.

Each box is wired in series, the boxes are wired together in parallel. Amp is connected to the top terminal and the bottom terminal on one tower.

Clear?

I think I got it. Last question, do I connect the positive (red) to the positive on the amp or do I connect it to the negative?

Red to red, black to black.

Make sure you have all the drivers hooked up the same polarity as well. An easy way to check is to use a 9v battery to “pop” them. All the cones should move the same direction. Outward with battery positive to speaker positive. Don’t leave the battery on, just touch it and watch the cone movement.

Well, I got them all wired up and one of my towers is not working. It is the center tower of the square. I double checked the external wiring but I am not sure how else to trouble shoot. Any ideas?

Got a multimeter? If so, check continuity on each terminal set.

If not, remove the wires and use a 9v battery to pop each driver. Will show you which one has an issue.

Can you take a picture of it and post it so we can see how you wired it?
If you did it the way I did, that would not be possible (the entire center tower is out and the outer towers are playing?).

It will kill the whole center tower if one of the drivers is bad or not hooked up. The two other towers will still work.

I agree a pic would be a good idea though.

I got it working! One of my wires had popped out when I was moving the tower. Now to EQ the beast and to carefully play with the placement. Thanks for all the help!
