Dual SI HT 18 D4 vs JTR S1

Hey fellas,

I bought some DIY subs from @Gorilla83 about two years ago. They are (2) Stereo Integrity HT18 drivers in D4 configuration wired together for a 4 ohm final load per enclosure. They are 3/4" MDF, triple front baffles with tons of interlocking/grooved bracing. Dimensions are 42" wide, 26" high, and 18.5" deep. Currently they are being powered by an Inuke 6000DSP.

There are some JTR S1s for sale at a decent price within driving distance to me. I like the idea of having integrated amps vs the iNuke but I am more concerned with performance. I know the JTR drivers are superior to the SI HT D4s, but by how much? Would there be a significant performance gain with the sing S1s vs the dual cabinet SI HT 18 D4?

I doubt you will get a gain, the dual SI drivers should have more output than the single JTR driver. The S2 hit 99 dB max sweep at 10hz and dual SI subs would hit 98.8 dB at 10hz. Assuming built right a doubling power for extra driver. So it is closer to the S2 than a S1. Now I did not check every frequency but 10hz is the hardest to get.

You should definitely get the JTRs, and junk the SI 18s. If you need help getting rid of the garbage SI 18s, I will pay for shipping and dispose of them in my subwoofer graveyard.

The difference in output is not as much as one would think, depending on frequency too. Just remember the box used at DB is not ideal for many of the drivers and commercial subs won't change. The SI sub has 23 mm of x-max times two compared to 30-34mm depending on version.

Without a doubt, I'd stick with your Stereo Integrity DIY setup, you won't get a gain with the JTR.

The 18s fall off under 18hz compared to the 24 but above that multiples should do very well. I had 12 SI18HTs in my room and the impact for ULF from just two massive x-max drivers is impressive and hard to go back, just missing that 140 dB of midbass which was never used anyways.

Yes, I build my own now! I am using RE XXX-18 drivers now with speakerpower amps. In my Avatar are my dual 10s and I am making a dual 12 version after vacation.

touching on the amp, I just hooked up an xls2502 to my si ht18 in a johnnysub box. running 4 ohms on just one channel it has plenty of power to push the sub. looking for a second is ht18 now for the other channel.

I had the xls1502 and it was plenty of amp for a single sub bridged but fell short running one sub off one channel
