Full Marty + VBSS?

Building my theater and planning my sub build. I had 4 horns in my old theater(2 THTs and 2 F20s). I'm now married with 2 kids and priorities have changed. I've done a bit of reading and the full Marty seems to be one of the best bang for your buck options so building one to start is my plan. I also find the vbss interesting and am curious if adding 2 of them behind the couch would help out with the higher frequencies the Marty may lack in. My main goal is for decent ULF but a nice kick from the mid bass. My room is 16x18x7.5. and I'll most likely go with a NX6000D to power it all.

I added 4 with my HST18 & the midbass kick plus the price of making them is more than worth the investment for me.

A full Marty (in the corner) with 2 VBSS behind the couch is my exact setup. It's great. I've never had horns to compare them to though.

If you can, you should look into adding a BOSS platform for your couch too. I just added mine this past week and it adds a whole new level of enjoyment. If you only get 1 amp you may not have a spare channel is the only downside. I have a 3000dsp and 6000dsp so had open channels to use.

Do it. My setup consists of 4 full martys and 2 vbss subs behind my couch. Perfect setup for ULF and midbass.

What are you guys tuning the VBSS to?

The bass shaker platform sounds awesome. Maybe that will be my upgrade next year.

I'm running mine on the 30hz tune since the full Marty is handling all the low stuff. I would assume Imidgitd is doing the same since he has 4 full Marty's. Lol That's awesome.

I'd recommend a minidsp 2x4HD be able to eq them as needed.

My VBSS cabs are tuned to 29hz and I high passed them around 35hz so that I avoid phase issues with the marty cabs.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll do a little more reading tonight but sounds like this will be the way to go. I'd eventually like a 2nd Marty but can't afford it at the moment. I'm still trying to decide what volts to build with the elusive 1099s.

Nice. I'm wanting to buy some HT-12s soon from diysg. The 1099s looked tempting. You'll have an awesome setup.

Mini-marty with a UM18 and a dual 31hz-tuned VBSS setup here. Very happy.

Do you run them all overlapping or use the VBSS’s as MBM’s? If you run them overlapping how hard was it integrating the subs having different tuning frequencies?

I don't remember how/where I have the overlapped, but yes, they do overlap. I think I have the UM18 doing 60hz and down. The VBSS are tuned for 31hz, but I don't think they start until ~40hz and go up from there.

However, my setup is also 100% for music. I discovered after the fact that the UM18 in a mini-marty isn't very useful for a music setup. That's the reason I did a dual 31hz VBSS setup afterwards. Obviously the VBSS has way more musical output than the UM18. The UM18 really just provides backup as an additional cone moving air. And of course when I play a bass-boosted song in the 20-40hz range, the UM18 helps out more.

So my wife told me to check and see if there were memorial day sales and man I'm glad she did. I picked up the a UM18-22 and 2 PA 460s. Now she's telling me to get a second UM18-22 and an amp so we can get the deal again. Will the nx6000d be enough for all 4 subs or will I need a separate amp for the PA460s?

I have an inuke3000 for 2 VBSS’s and a 6000 ready for a pair of fully Marty’s I’m finishing. From what I was told the Marty’s take one channel each on the 6000 and then you might want to pick up a 3000. Should be an awesome setup, I’m ready to get mine finished up

TV: Panasonic 60" VT60 Plasma Surround: Yamaha RXA3050 5.1.2 Definitive Technology BP7006 (front), DefTech studio 350's (rear), Def Tech Di6.5r (ceiling) Players: Raspberry Pi running OpenElec/Kodi, Roku, Sony Blu-ray Control: Control4, whole house automation

Depends on what drivers are in the martys but you'll be golden with the 6000. I'm actually just using a 1000 for my 2 vbss subs.

You'll want to have one channel of a 6000 for each UM18. A 6000 for two marties and a 3000 for a lot of VBSSs would be a good setup.

I liked vbss at front stage than NF. Im planning to build 2 pico wreckers to get the feel of horns. Eventually f20 is the best fit i can sneak in in between jbl 4722s on my front stage. Interesting to know your experience the other way round
