No, they're not. The method I gave you ensures you're not clipping the input to the MiniDSP or lets you determine if you are clipping it. The method you employed only ensure you're not going to add additional clipping at the output of the MiniDSP. You have no idea if the input is being clipped or not.

I'm sure you're correct, the questions are only for my understanding. Being as I've attenuated the inputs of the minidsp so that the signal level never is higher than -10 while playing a 50hz -3dBFS sine wave, how could the inputs ever clip?

Where did you attenuate the inputs of the MiniDSP at?

Those sliders are a digital post input attenuation. They don't reduce the analog voltage going into the A/D converter. As such, they can't reduce clipping on the input.

Got it. Why do people in the Minidsp thread imply that the inputs can be attenuated by those sliders. I got the method of preventing clipping the minidsp from a post in the minidsp thread and no one mentioned that was an incorrect method and will not prevent clipping.

The rolls 134 will give you lots of gain and 4 outputs to boot for quite cheap. No infrasonic bass loss either. Probably work well for those with
the usual output gain problems even with a mini dsp. Here the unit would install after the dsp.

If you have a balanced mini dsp, I would suggest putting a matchbox ahead of it. As Wayne will tell you, there are plenty of matchboxs with
excellent specifications.

Personally I have a hard time seeing the 2 volt input as an issue. If it was, would it not be an issue already, if your supposed avr measured 9 volts or even 4 volts. My experience is that all rca outputs are for the most part inadequate in driving an XLR output. (throwing all the measuring out the window, to date I see no warnings for people to measure the rca outputs just to hook up other rca equipment, all rca equipement is suppose to be compatible)

I did a quick test of my 7702 at MV=0 using a -3dBfs 100Hz sine wave to channel 4, leaving Audyssey and the sub trim at normal use settings. I will try to find some time to do more measurements and see if/where clipping occurs. In this case the AVR seems to produce a clean looking 3.68V RMS signal.
