You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

Before you know it you will be thinking about fitting two Devastators up front with 214.50s. It might take a lot to dress them up to meet WAF standards, but worth it!

Lol, I wish that were possible, might block the screen though and put the coffin to use after she saw them. I keep all my DIY stuff in the back of the room and seems to work well. I think my latex finishes all turned out great on my DIY gear, but I can’t touch the quality of PSA’s satin black finish and compactness of their line that my wife tolerates, or I would definitely have at least two Marty cubes up front. Dedicated space hopefully next year!

I built a double fold because I had scrap MDF from putting 2-15's in my F150 SuperCrew.

Here is my build thread on diyaudio.com from 2012. I'm still using it as is...no paint and pencil mark's still on display.

Nice, what are the dimensions of that horn and how's the output? It looks fairly compact! I think years from now if I have room, I'll build a big horn to see what all the love is about; when well optimized, they seem to be the favorite at a lot of GTG's I've read about, but they sure do vary widely in concept and complexity of build.

Throat = 9".
Mouth= 5".
Horn length = 120" or 10ft.
Internal width = 16".
23hz tune.
Internal volume = 222L or <10ft3.
Enclosure = 32.25"H x 17.5"W x 31.75"D.

Due to the decreased flare, the T-TQWT is the least efficient of the 3 types of TH's. But, it's the smallest of the 3 enclosures! I chose low and small regarding Hoffman's Law.

The sound is incredible! I cracked the walls in the mancave and above the room with less than 200 watts from an old Yamaha AVR in 2 channel mode.

I upgraded to the SA1000 because the force from Kylo Ren kept cutting off the Yamaha.

In its simplest form, a TH requires the same amount of pieces of wood as a BR. Not including bracing, all you need is 7 boards when building a single fold TH. That 7th piece mounts the speaker and creates the horn.

Do you think everything would get completely out of hand trying to load a 21DS115?

It depends on what you want.

How big do you want the enclosure?
How low do you want it to play?
How loud do you want it to play?

Hoffman's Law, pick 2 of the 3.

Here you guy!

Bare in mind, you have to use THREE 0.75" (2.25") speaker plates because of the 8" throat and 21DS115-8 has a 10.04" mounting depth.

The horn is 132.32".

Single fold internal = 66.16"H x 22"W x 13.9"D.

Passband is a little too low for my fronts, 90Hz is the sweet spot for the front crossover. I am tinkering with this, an 8th order bandpass.

Red 8th order vs Dev v1. The one graph with filters I was running wattage a little too hot for displacement.

I think you can choose between BP8S and BP8P with the latest version of HR now. Your CAD looks like a BP8P. NICE flat response tho'!

I think I might have to title this one the Decimator. It was the next name on the list and an old non wooden Star Wars ship.

Though between the LFE and this what would you choose? This is 100+ liters smaller. LFE is about 30cuft this one is 25cuft.

Also, I went for small and low for your T-TQWT. You can shorten the horn or increase the height of the throat or mouth to get to 90hz.

Well geez, if I knew I had that much volume to work with, then I would model a true TH that will crush all the enclosures we modeled so far.

I would always choose the smaller enclosure!

Sekosche, I apologize if you think Red Five and I are hijacking your thread.

Red Five, I got your message. I can't post pics from my hard drive in a message. I modeled this <20ft3 TH before I saw your 50" maximum height. The height internally with a double fold is 52". Notice, it only needs 1,100wrms to reach 135db's and the bandwidth is 20-150hz!

Haha nope it’s all good, I’m at work for 6 of the next 8 nights anyway so won’t be much build progress for at least a week. Figures it’s really starting to heat up here in the Ozarks in the coming weeks, high 80’s and humid hope the crazy rain lets up some, going to be a sweaty build! I’m all for subwoofer talk, I don’t know anything about horn subs really, so it’s interesting.

I told the wife my one last final project at this house until we move next year is this build, which is virtually the same size as my current two boxes combined plus 4“ width and 2” depth but same length and black...I didn’t mention I was putting a new driver in the cab, so we’ll see if she notices.

Trust me, TH, T-TQWT, and TQWP ( tapped pipe/tube or straight flare tapped horn) will be the best sounding bass you ever heard due to the low distortion compared to Sealed and BR enclosures. Because TH's are more efficient, the driver moves less per given voltage (watts). If a speaker moves, it distorts. Due to the BP6S nature of a TH, it can handle more power than Sealed and BR enclosures.

Got the MDF cut down to 24.5” x 97” and unloaded, almost done right? Oh wait, I have to build it still.

Unfortunately, I had to buy 3 sheets due to the length there was no way to cut it from 2. Going to be a heavy mother compared to the last few. It’s essentially a little over two Marty cubes in volume, so I definitely won’t be lifting this one by myself. I predict a lot of big box flipping in my future and putting the furniture dollies to good use.

21" Slim Nearfield 7.8cu ft Build with LaVoce SAN214.50

Today I just got everything set up to start cutting, garage cleaned out, yard work and other errands then back to work for a couple shifts before a whole week off to really dig into the build. Might get the main cuts to length in today before the family gets home, baffles, sides, and back. Taking my time on these to ensure everything is square.

Final build is a 72”x24”x16” 10 cu ft cab tuned 19Hz.

I like that curve! Room gain will flatten it out.

So what is the design? Horn? Bass reflex?
