Haha not done yet, barely even started, been looking at a sad pile of MDF for a week in my garage on my last 4 days off.

Lost a lot of build days on my 6 day “break” to family obligations for visiting relatives and slight work schedule alterations. A little more bass can always wait for family...but dang I want to throw this sucker together!

Got the main cuts done and hopefully will start assembling tomorrow. Brad nailing most the build with a combo of TB III and PL3 Premium for adhesive to make quick work of it.

I wish, got a few walls up toward the end of my break and that was it. Working 3 of the next 4 nights anyway, but starting next week I’ll be on a normal day shift schedule going forward with plenty of time to finish up.

No, those certainly aren’t brad nails poking through.

Port is done, just need to cut the driver holes and glue the double baffle in tomorrow, and I can work on bracing next week and possibly finish up.

For this cab, I’m gluing the side/top on last and it seems to be a solid method so far over inserting the baffle/top last. Because the cuts are so square, I’m happy to only use Titebond III so far instead of PL3, because the cleanup and ease of positioning pieces, but I’m going to use PL3 for the final side/top to ensure any uneven gaps are filled. Moving along at a pretty casual pace, but so far it’s the easiest build yet...hope I didn’t just jinx myself.

Wound up with 1.5” driver clearance from port back wall, so it’s a perfect fit. Starting on bracing today and tomorrow.

A 3rd baffle layer would have been great to flush mount the driver that sticks up a solid 3/4”, but that’s a lot of added weight for something that isn’t seen.

Just like a port in an enclosure, you want the distance to be at least the diameter of the vent from the end of the port/vent to the back wall for proper tuning and cooling.

1.5 inches is more than enough room. The vent distance is only a suggestion, not any sort of rule.

Probably going with 4 window braces placed here and throw in some horizontal supports between them. Maybe overkill, maybe not, but I think the depth only being 16” negates a lot of the need for bracing across that plane.

Better to have too much than not enough, Ive under braced and found out quickly about panel resonance. The driver will put a ton of pressure inside the box.

By eyeballing it, that looks good! Rule of thumb is roughly 10 inches between braces.

Right on, close enough for the bracing as I placed them 12” on center for the top three windows and the lid will be the fourth. Like the nice even number.

I bought a pillow to cram in the middle, but since the box is over 48” at 72” long but a shallow 16” depth I think someone mentioned it might not be needed for standing waves. Might as well put it in there.

Not sure I’ll have time to glue all the bracing in today, but I’ve got two more days off still to knock it out and get ready to sand and finish. Would really like to get a coat of paint on it this week before I go back to work.

Not sure I’ll have time to glue all the bracing in today, but I’ve got two more days off still to knock it out and get ready to sand and finish. Would really like to get a coat of paint on it this week before I go back to work.

Considering a QW resonator is a tube for the most part and this is a longer tube, sound could resonate back there in unintended ways, best to play it safe

You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

Burning the midnight oil to get all the bracing glued up tonight, so I can hopefully seal it up tomorrow and start sanding/routing soon. I did the bracing in little sections like this with the brad nailer, and seems to work well for sliding them in to avoid so much movement between glued pieces.

That's amazing that piece is going to fit inside an enclosure! Looks like you are building a table.

Woohoo, bracing is done! I bet she’ll be solid as a rock. Just need to drill out the Speakon hole, slap the insulation in, and glue the side and top on. I think the normally quick insulation application will be a little more tedious with so many little chambers to fill. Hope I’m not forgetting anything before I close it up, as I’m just doing it all off my previous builds memory.
