Tod,

Perhaps a more descriptive thread title would garner more interest; I almost didn't take a look myself.

It caught my interest! Though I'm not really adventurous...

This is kinda sad in my opinion. I get it, but still. From text in the first link :

"Our product mix has changed - instead of building great big speaker boxes, people are wanting little compact things," Peavey said.

I would be willing to take a gamble on the lot if it went low enough. I mean it seems that most of the items for auction are all returns, but yet looking at the pictures you can see boxes un opened. So I have to think that you could get some items in new condition, just damaged boxes maybe.

Let's say hypothetically that you got a bit carried away and while thinking that there's no way you would win anything, you bid on a few things.

Now, still hypothetically, if you ended up with 3 or 4 or 6 pallets of amps that were somewhat loosely packed, how would you go about getting someone to box, pallet, wrap, and ready these for UPS pickup for shipping to Canada? Asking for a friend (hypothetically until Wednesday, when maybe the point will be moot).

Well, currently sitting as max bidder on 7 lots totaling 95 different amplifiers according to their listings.

I have estimated that shipping these to me in Canada would be around $1500 USD (not verified), but that would be like $300 per pallet and 5 pallets.

There's no import duty, so I would just pay GST, so I've estimated my landed cost at $4,000 CAD, which works out to about $45 CAD per unit. So, assuming that I can sell these net of shipping for $50 each, I can wiggle my way out of this disaster. I think I had just a half hour of thinking this was like Amazon, and clicking bid was like clicking "Add to Cart" and instead, pretty sure that was basically "BUY NOW". I don't think that if I end up as the max bidder I can get out of the process as the information says clicking "BID" was akin to signing a contract of sale.

So, I can do UPS for shipping, but my problem I can't solve is how to get everything on pallets and wrapped/plastic'd for hauling. Apparently the auction is "As-Is, Where-is" so the onus is on the purchaser to arrange all that.

Tomorrow I will phone UPS and see what their options are, but could really use someone with a commercial account with UPS as I think those would get way better freight rates, plus I've only been able to select from freight options that show 150 lbs as a maximum for a parcel. I think pallets would be the most efficient way, but I have no idea how freight works.

Fingers crossed all this worry is moot on Wednesday if people show up and bid on the items. But who can say. Hopefully my wife takes this well. We are in the middle of moving houses too, so this was really a lapse of any kind of critical thinking on my part.

Cheers to anyone who can offer some tips or recommend shipping services that would be reasonable. I wouldn't care if the pallets would take a month to reach me. I also think its a bit of a waste to ship to myself in Canada as in probably 50% or more of future sales, I'd be shipping back to the States (there's just more of you down there). But I don't have a way to keep the items in the states and test them to see if they work, or otherwise part them out (thinking chassis and transformers/toroidals would be able to get me $50 per unit or 25 for a chassis, 25 for a transformer/power supply section).

5 pallets, what is the total estimated weight? Also, the destination postal code in Canada?

I'm not sure you're going to get that done for 1500 total.

You can try unishippers for a quote. I have no idea how competitive they are but it will give you a starting off point.

Thanks Tom,
You are right, shipping is going to be very expensive. Using spec sheets and the scarce info available from the auction site, looks like about 4,300 lbs. Holy s***.

Shipping is to T3K 0R1.

So let's say 7 pallets, 12 and 13 amps per pallet, which would be 600 lbs per pallet give or take. If I'm up to $3000 USD for shipping, then I'm at $65 CAD per unit (say $50USD).

So, the shipping is really going to make this difficult, but if I could get $100 per unit for the standard and high power amps, maybe $200 for ones like the Peavey CA-A800B (400W/channel @8 ohms) (assuming most work), then I could break even.

I may have to look at shipping to near the border and getting a UHAUL to take it across.

I really can't explain what was going through my head.

Anyways, thanks again Tom for the info, I will look Unishippers up.

The auction, as Peavey explains, is the result of the company's closing and consolidation of manufacturing locations in the United States.

This pretty much tells you all you need to know about tariffs and how much they will affect net us economy. Zero or very little. Resume normal life
