Has anyone built either of these kits? There seemed to be lots posts/chat/interest in these then the kits became available and I can't seem to find anything. Would like some comments/impressions from builder/owners please.
Exactly my point. All the "pre release" posts indicated lots of interest based on the potential of these speakers...including you and I. Hype and excitement are good but the kits have been out for a couple of months and not a single build thread or measured responses from a final build. Many of the experienced DIY guys would have knocked out boxes for these kits in no time flat. I find that strange and It makes me wonder if/why the experienced DIY audiophiles don't seem to be as excited about or rushing to build this speaker? I hope they are great speakers, I just want to see evidence other than waiting for the typical "five stars" and "these are great speakers"ratings from the first time and "flat pack guys".
I built a pair recently. They are fantastic. So crisp, dynamic, and transparent.
2.5 cuft Baltic birch cabinets tuned to 65Hz. This alignment produces a notable hump in the upper bass but nothing that can't be effectively tamed with EQ.
I'm using them in a hybrid two channel nearfield/midfield setup with an array of the cheapo JBL 12" subs in sealed boxes. Basically, they are my computer speakers - that coaxial point source! - but I also have a secondary listening position on a sofa further back in the room.
Here's a pic of the full setup. I was obviously a bit nervous about building such comically huge computer speakers, but they really do work perfectly for my needs. Definitely superior soundstage and imaging to the more traditional 7" two-ways they replaced and they still sound great at low SPL. That said, there's a pretty good chance they eventually get moved to my living room home theater paired with Buyout 15 subs (I snagged the last two!).

I’m also trying to find out about these speakers. I’m planning on upgrading my LCR’s in my HT/audio setup from my Epos Epic 2’s, but I think I’m looking for mutually exclusive improvements. The biggest thing I want is more dynamics, particularly at loud volumes, but I also want more refinement in soundstage and microdynamics.
I’ve been looking at the Vortex 12”, and also the DIYSG Apollo MTM’s, but my search for DIY has also led me to consider the VSS Criton T2D’s, and especially the GR-Research A/V series. From what I can gather, they’ll deliver the greatest level of refinement.....but likely they’ll be far behind when it comes to raw output and slam.
I think the Vortex will tick your boxes. They are very refined and have a huge soundstage.
