Sort of like that scene in Scanners, but more enjoyable!

Okay, I officially admit defeat! That's one impressive audio cabinet. I'm still in awe of the fact that you used to daisy chain the splitters together and it worked! I would have figured signal attenuation would have been rearing it's ugly head somewhere after the 4th splitter.

I've been busy today calling my local hardwood supplier getting pricing on 3/4" and 1" MDF, as well as 3/4" Baltic Birch. The pricing is not as bad as I anticipated. I'm also waiting for a response back from Sinbosen on the price and availability of the FP20000Q amp.

I am looking to finish my Devs. I would like to spray them but I have not an expert by any means. I have a few questions:

1. How many coats of primer should I use, how many coats of paint?

2. I am thinking of using the GSG Audio formulation that they have on their site. Any other recs for black paint?

3. How do I finish the edges of the wood? I am using baltic birch ply. Can I use drywall compound?

4. I have some beads of glue at the seems of the bottom ports etc, do you just chisel them out and sand?

Thank you all for your time!

Chad

Two coats of primer should do. Once you have those down sand them with a medium grit paper. You can use a brush and lay it down thick, since you are sanding it anyways.

Do you have Menards in your area? This stuff works great - https://www.menards.com/main/paint/i...295-c-8017.htm

I am not the finishing expert with edges, I know a lot of guys use round overs.

Yes, use a knife or chisel to get the majority of the glue off. I am assuming it is PL? It does not sand well, so remove as much as you can without damaging the wood, then hit it with sandpaper.

This is the way...

Thanks John! So even though the paint says paint and primer in one, I should still do the primer first correct?

I may look at doing a round over but I will have to research that.

Thanks!!

It does not build the greatest, the primer will do better filing little imperfections. Zinnser has a cheap drywall primer, I think @hd0823 used that and said it worked fine. The GSG recommendation is the Triple Thick Zinnser primer. MDF really soaked that up, not sure how much the Birch will soak up.

Look at some of @eng-399 builds for inspiration

Did you use anything for the plywood edges? Just sand and primer or did you use any drywall compound?

I actually came up with a idea to trim them out and save on some of the finishing work I did do drywall compound on alot of the seams and plywood edges plus alot of sanding

After all these years, I think I've decided on a design that will work, and it's one of these... well, 2 of these...now I just need to figure out which one to build.
Gonna be 2 devs, 21" in each, and not 8ohm drivers. I have a 3K and a 6k, 6k is driving 2 Micros with PA460, so the Devs will make those redundant, and at the same time, fill in the bottom so I can get away from the idea of building 2 Full Marty's (with HT18's I've had forever) and having to run a new circuit.
Great thread Red, I've been following along.

Thanks

Off topic question about your iNukes. I see you have channel A gain at about 50% and channel B gain at 0%. I was under the impression that the gain should be set at 100%. I'm assuming you're bridged and not using channel B but why is channel A at 50% - Should I not have mine at 100%?

I didn’t have a MiniDSP to crank the gain way down in if my attenuator was all the way up. So I was at about 5/8” gain on the knob. That landed my lfe output at -8 or so.

I could’ve used the software in the amps dsp, now that I recall. But I just did it the other way.

I’ve made a big mistake, the brace you see is 18mm to far back, hence Close to the port, so my access hatch brace that I have made that is supposed to rest on this brace is 18mm short. The options are, try and remove the brace, although not sure how without snapping it, add an extra 18mm to the access hatch panel piece, or add an extra perpendicular brace piece to the window so that it holds the access hatch.
