Fellas, just wait til you get them out the house! My 26 year old is FINALLY graduating from Cincinnati this year. Reminds me of Craig from "Higher Learning." He has a job and plans on getting his OWN place in July. The apartment me and the wife pays for, the lease expires in August. We'll be FREE!

I am having a heck of a time sourcing 12-10 .187" female disconnects for the cabinet side of the speakon terminal. Anyone have suggestions for getting them locally? I see PE has them but cost me more to ship than they are worth.

Thanks!

I would give the local hardware store a call, they might have them.

So far HD, Lowes, nor Menards had them. I will try a local place and see what they got. Also, thought maybe one of the auto parts stores may carry them. Thanks and congrats on the new one!!

I'm sure Amazon would have them and if you have Prime they would be free shipping.

Hello Everyone! I’ve completed my second round of Mini Devastators.

The first I created were Mini 18” Version 2. I wasn’t fond of the aesthetic direction I went, making them look like cabinets. I think it was too distracting and I had issues with sealing the resin. Secondary concern was access panel put of square. Pretty sure it was sealed well, but... I wasn’t happy.

Second build is the Mini 18” Version 5, with the top access hatch.

This build went a little more smoothly, especially since I had the local wood company cut all my pieces. Only at one point were things seeMing out of square, not sure where it came from, but I was able to clamp it back in pretty close.

After work today and after touch ups are done, I will post near field measurements

Sadly I did not take pictures during the build.

Edit: NearField added. Bheringer was set to 12 o'clock, AVR -15.

So I was killing some time before bed and stumbled across a leak conversion on here. Being my first DIY run, I didn’t consider the importance of leaks!

Found a decent size leak on one edge, and a small one in the corner. Fixed them up, will test again tomorrow!

Will the polyester wadding be ok between the two window braces? Not much else it can go? Is acoustic foam on the walls like ported cabs of any benefit? Cheers

I have a question, I’m thinking of doing this for a 8”-10” driver. Why that small? Because I want to put this in my car. I could go IB but i don’t want to hack up my trunk.

Will it be worth it?

Use one of these in your car.....Nano Devastator 12" 40"x16.5"x20" OR https://billfitzmaurice.info/AutoTruckTuba.html

Smaller drivers will require a complete redesign for the Dev...

Polyester wadding will be ok.... IF ... you make it in the form of a pillow or just make it simple and use some cheap pillows from your favorite big box store.... foam on the walls is totally useless in this design...

Had to get creative with some DIY Port Plugs for the 18" Mini V5.

The fit is tighter on one over the other. Variances from my build process

Edit: The half inch rubberized pipe insulation seems to be right, but I had used a 3/4 pvc pipe for a tighter fit. Might be a little too tight. But it certainly pugs the port.

That tune will most likely get under 15Hz, I have not simulated the M18V5 with a plug lol.

Hey, Red! I actually have two plugged soooo. 🙂

I was trying to figure out on my own how to sum it in Hornresp, but that was harder than it looked lol.

I plan on running some near field to test with one and two plugs plugged.

I will say that on this second build, the top hatch is pretty damn sweet. Plus the lower tune. And I added a pillow 🙂

From an experience standpoint, everything “feels” so much louder, but the dB meter is actually lower. The depth and grit are there, where as open fills the room like an aquarium 🙂

Hard to explain I suppose. Just the way that the Devastators pressurize the room. It's very different from the direct radiator ported and or sealed subs I've heard. The air feels thick, like the sound is on me.

When plugged, its closer to a sealed kick, and the SPL pressure is different.

That makes sense. Bass has an almost tactile 3d other world feel when done well.

Quick update .....

I finally got the PA460 earlier than expected
I did some close mic measurements with / without pillows. It turns out that 2 pillows is the way to go..

I'm quite impressed with the way they sound. The bass is so clean, they definitely bring more punch to the party
And we're talking about PA460, not 21ds115
I've started to integrate them with my sealed and it's going much better than expected. Still more work to do but the worst is done.

Here they are in their new home.

Thanks !
The screen is 1.5’’ from the Devs. and there’s no movement when playing hard.
Vibrations from LFE is a different story. When i did the pillows tests with Rew, they were on the floor, on each side of the screen. I got surprised to see that the Devs alone were making the screen vibrate !

Hello All--

Looking for some advice on the BW on my MLP sweep with a single plugged port on the M18V5

I have attached a 3rd order BW at 15hz aligned curve, and a no BW aligned curve.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Edit: Realized I had the crossover on

Hello All--

Looking for some advice on the BW on my MLP sweep with a single plugged port on the M18V5

I have attached a 3rd order BW at 15hz aligned curve, and a no BW aligned curve.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Edit: Realized I had the crossover on

John @Red Five has a new baby and I am now in construction season and working 80-90hrs a week, so not much modeling is happening currently.

I’m home for the weekend though, so will try to help out a bit.

I’m not sure what driver or amp you’re using, so I modeled with a saf184.03 on 1000w.

Open has a 17hz tune, 17hz 3rd order HPF.
1 plugged has a 14hz tune, 14hz 3rd order HPF.
2 plugged has a 10hz tune, 10hz 4th order HPF.

Excursion is approaching 20mm on both plugged configs, more than this driver will provide. So you won’t be getting the full output modeled at low frequencies. I wouldn’t worry about driver damage from over-excursion with these drivers though.

We are well below the intended frequency range of this driver, so port velocity isn’t too out of control with one plugged, 26m/s.

I wouldn’t suggest running two plugged, velocity is approaching 40m/s.

Honestly, I would run all open, but one plugged should be usable as well.

Not sure what other advice you’re looking for.

Chris
Red Five likes this.

Thank you for the modeling and advice, Chris.

I get into experimentation mode, and am running a bit blind. These details help a ton!

Running the TBW18" on the NX3000D.

I will unplug them again and play around with it to see what I can do with the integration.

I may just need to add a couple sealed subs for some "thump"

What freq range do you need to thump in? That TBW should have plenty of thump.....

Hi Juju-

The TBW/Dev certainly grabs you and give chest thump. I think I am still just getting used to this style of sub, and experimenting with it.

Ok, I remodeled it with the tbw on 700w, which is a bit more than the 3000d pushes per channel.

Same filters used. One port plugged looks good on excursion and velocity. Two plugged is too high on both.

I would caution against using sealed and Devastators together, integration is very challenging.
