I’ll ask Red if it’s okay to have blocks protruding from the front, but I’ve used these spax screws before and liked them.

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

A few chunks of 2x4 will not hurt anything. If you look at my Mini build thread you will see them in the front.

You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

Maybe I had a plan for a clear plastic retro fit, this could be doable...

If you can have a deeper cabinet, you could build a spacer to replace the hatch panel to increase rear chamber volume. It could be full cabinet height.

It will lower your port tune also.

@jujuman200 looking at some quick calculator math, the LFE with the shallow front has 21.8cuft gross to work with. I wonder what the NSW would do in that with some tweaking? 123db maybe a little more might be possible at 2/3 gap. If I can get enough vent area with 130Hz + first port resonance or see how low it can go and still hit 120db. There is not a current Devastator that can do 16Hz at 120db and kick your chest in with mid bass. 120 might be a little ambitious, but I can always try

Making it taller and slimmer might be desirable. The rear chamber is already at 400+ liters, that is a big chamber!

@Nalleh , this is the one you have been wanting to see. I have a couple comparisons. The 1 cuft sealed and then a bass reflex with the same specs as the Nano. The box would have to get taller for bringing the resonate point down more.

I would start with this filter and then measure near field, see if it looks pretty flat or needs more tweaking. 300 watts, with a 20Hz 2nd order HPF keeps things in check, about 15.2mm is the estimate on the sim.

Two of the lower ports, the math is assuming they are all equal distance, 5 inches between each board. If you are building port covers the outside two would be the easiest.

@Red Five : awsome work, thanks so much Is this still about 154 liters ?

And is this with the latest HCR improvents?

Would it be possible to plug ports on this too, to lower tuning?

General Q: is there any point plugging the resonator ports?

External volume is 7.64 cuft or 216.3 liters rear chamber volume is 111.6 liters. It is a nice rear chamber volume for pushing the driver to what would be considered safe max on power and excursion. Yes, the front chamber is 283.06 cm2, that is a 1.95:1 compression ratio. Plugging ports is an easy way to drop the tune without modifying a box, native tune is 19Hz on the Nano. One port plugged (on the HH resonator, we do not want to mess with the QW/horn) should push tune down somewhere in the mid teens. You add port velocity and lose efficiency when doing that. Since it is a 12" it is not pushing the laws of physics as much as some other things so velocity is not as bad.

Speaking of pushing the laws of physics, Dev MAX LFE for the NSW looks very promising, at least in the sim, only pushing 35m/s on port velocity. 15Hz tune, 2200 watts, 22.5mm of excursion.

Not even sure what to name this one, Mini 21" NSW LFE MAX HCR - it basically is everything in one box. Tune is estimated at 15.5Hz, there is some extension on this one. Any of the 21"s would work, but that left corner number might not be as high. Pushing around 23mm of excursion with a 15Hz 3rd order HPF.

SAN214.50 getting 91 volts still looks very respectable.

With EQ that actually looks very similar to the ported version?

Could you post the max SPL of Nano and ported?

Both are pushing 33 volts or 300 watts with 15mm excursion limit enabled. The Devastator can do more if it gains displacement from lengthening the horn. I attached a BMD version that is getting worked on as an example of what would happen with the horn section.

Devastator 21" Version 2 HCR

This is the Devastator Version 2 HCR! A slight tweak to the original design adding more rear chamber volume and taking down the midbass response with the smaller front horn section. External dimensions are kept the same as the original along with the 19Hz tune. The sim is 91 volts into a SAN214.50 with a 19Hz 2nd order HPF active.

Uhh, that BMD model(third attm) isn’t for the 12" ?!?

Nevertheless clever lengthening of the horn part

No, that is a SAN214.50 getting 1600 watts lol.

You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

I suppose this box is for Jbl CS1214, am I right.

Yes, that is geared for the JBLs. It will work with other 12"s though.

Are these directional?

Looking for a way to add subs to room columns under side surround and rear speakers in a dedicated room. Would the box for the JBL 12 work pointed towards the front or rear of the room?

The frequency range these play in is not all that directional. You can point it whatever you want for the most part, if a boundary is less than a foot away that could mess with it though. I will have to get the Nano finished up soon, I just have not had many opportunities for finishing the cut list etc as of late.

Planning to build one once the cut list is ready to see how it does using jbl driver that I already have.

There would be a boundry. It looks like the ports could be cut on the 20" side instead of the 16.5". If port size is kept the same, does the placement matter?

Nano Devastator 12"

Here is the Devastator Nano for the JBL 12"s that are common place now The design should work well with other 12 inch subs out there, this is just the most popular one at the moment. Sim is 300 watts with a 20Hz 2nd order HPF. Tune came out to 19Hz on this cabinet.

If the box were to grow and I sort through some engineering challenges a BMD Nano could be doable. This would be a concept of that.
