Well that tends to happen when you have less distortion. Happens a lot when people get used to hearing distortion and then not, they “think” there is less bass.

It seems everywhere we encounter a positive there always has to be a negative - " he's dead Jim" was McCoy's funny side of the show (the negative ) with Spock being the positive side. I thought I'd never hear anyone use that line - "he's dead Jim" - as he scanned the dust laden bones. LOL !

I was left alone finally for 15 minutes. They can make the concrete floor vibrate under my feet standing close to them lashing out Galactic Empire. All that wonderful TR does not translate into all that much on the couch. I am contemplating a riser platform that can quickly be converted to a BOSS once the funds and stuff become available. Any other suggestions?

You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

BOSS is amazing TR down low. Too bad you just missed the BF sale.

Nearfield if you have the space.

Or just use the mini’s as a seat. That should add some TR.

I assume you are getting significantly more punch than stormbreaker?

DS hit harder from a perception level. The Minis are louder though, I can tell that just from being upstairs with them running at low levels. I hate doing it, but I might have to move the mouths into the spot where the DS was located. The way they are positioned now sounds like a larger stage than where the DS was located. The DS was roughly at 1/3rd room width. Now they sit at 1/4 and 1/2 room width roughly.

Interesting. It must be something about the devastator design. I thought mine seemed unimpressive perceptively at the beginning as well. But I’m still running my same sealed 18’s, and quickly realized just how loud the devastators were when the sealed couldn’t come close to keeping up.
The plethora of new house rattles and groans, and the ear pain from crazy demo sessions prove that the devastators are bringing the bass, lol. I’m starting to agree with John and Kevin, these subs are dangerous.

They are sneaky, I should maybe have called them Phatoms after the Tie ship variant. I was playing Toy Story 2 at sane levels and notice the floor was vibrating a little, they have another 4db or 5db of low end left.

I think using some flimsy 1/2" CDX ply and rubber isolators under the couch should get stuff wobbling just using the Devastators SPL. I have to see how the PA380 does in the Micro. They will be down maybe 13-15db vs the Mini with a SAN, but when it is 20% or less of the distance it might work.

I have to agree..... In my experience with these boxes, the perception of BASS is less BUT the actual volume is MUCH LOUDER. The LFE hits notes that the Marty couldn't cleanly on a good day and their TR is nice. Not too much... just right. It seems like they have more substance and higher quality yet less weight to the sound... if that makes sense. I would like to find a happy medium....
BTW..... The Devs are just sick playing Techno Dub/Psychill grooves.....

I have yet to get a good Infected Mushroom session in. Probably for the better of my hearing. A couple short bursts sounded good!

Friends on Mushrooms is really what got me into this hobby with my dinky starter setup. The desire for higher volumes and clarity just kept me driving down into the rabbit hole.

Once you get Devastators you realize you will wreck your hearing. Maybe just getting more of them and a set of "Hi-Fi" -20db ear plugs is the solution? lol. Maybe then your body will feel broken first...

Yeah, I’m actually concerned about my hearing with the setup I’m building. Will have to learn to be careful. Not worth doing permanent damage.

I think my house will give up before my body does though.

Two more Mini's could become a problem, v3s are on a whole different level of structural integrity desecration with all that displacement. It should be fun though

I’m just hoping for a setup where I don’t need to/ can’t max it out. Everything always has limits though.

There is a member in our local group that pushes over 150db. Max it out is relative I guess. 8x 18"s and 8x 21"s.

Not bad, lol.

Can that actually be used for anything except brief demos? I would think that is going to cause hearing damage very quickly.

Hope they’re good at replacing drywall, lol. Or just go to tongue and groove pine or something.

Bet its fun though.

I have not made it out to one of his GTGs, but I have heard the stories and I have seen the pictures of chunks of drywall falling on the stairs lol.

Guess I’ll just have to pick up 2 cap4000ulf’s and 3 TV42 IPAL’s. Seems cheap and completely reasonable, and I wouldn’t want to get too far behind.

He has 4x of the Seaton's with the Dual UM18s and 8x Othorns. It might take 4x 4000ULFs to stick with it and 8x Mini Devastators? Going deaf or homeless is a real possibility lol.

Hmm, maybe scrap mine and start over then.
Start with 16 HS24’s in a SLLT/ported IB, tuned 7hz or so.
Then add 4 21sw152 loaded SKHorns for high frequency efficiency.
See how that works and go from there.
Probably need to pour a reinforced concrete ceiling and walls too.

Just build a concrete bunker under your backyard porch using a spanning concrete top with 11’ ceilings so you can float the floor to get back your TR. I am planning on doing just what I said when we build our “forever home”.

Just build a bunker, except the explosions are inside.

I promise this will get you there. I dont come any where near maxing out the v3s and devastors and it's quite ridiculous in the room so bad that the bar feels like it's about to shake off the floor.

There comes a point somewhere around 130db to 135db where stuff wants to break. Going beyond that will result in damage to drywall or worse. Two Minis and a couple v3s should reach that point in anything smaller than an auditorium.

You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

I just got a chance to dial up a movie quick before I take off and this filter set sounds the most balanced! -3db at 30Hz -9db at 20Hz.
