I plan for this. I just hope it’s better when I get done! Then just my hst’s.

Can’t comment on HST’s yet, though mine did ship today.
However, the mini dev’s to my ht18’s isn’t even fair on the upper frequencies. Its a whole different league.
I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I don’t think I’ll be disappointed, it just seems funny to cut 8 18” subs (6 hst’s and my 2 ds4’s nearfield) at 60hz and hand off to 2 15’s. But hey, the sim shows it should work out better, so it will.

This is just my personal preference, but I like mid bass hitting me from a forward position. The HT subs will be giving you good room pressurization and the lower frequency crossover should make them very difficult to localize.

You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

I’m actually more concerned about the nearfields than the 6 hst’s, lol. I’m safely confident that the 2 micro’s will be an upgrade over 6 HST’s at the higher frequencies.

Cutting the nearfields off might end up feeling weird though. Or perhaps not.
Hence the integration discussion, it’s possible you won’t have to cut em off. Only experience and measurements will tell.

I got the drivers pulled out today and ran some 20hz tones through them. These are beefy drivers. I pushed excursion rather far free air, and these have a lot of it. I’m sure the things would have been making lots of noise in any kind of cab. I’m getting very excited to build these. Nothing like any other sub I’ve built. My buddy is working on a cutlist and I should have the cut panels by this weekend.

Man life is coming at me fast right now. I’ve had zero time to spend building my new subs. But here’s a pic of everything cut and ready to build! I can’t wait I enjoy this building part so much.
Also another xbs 20q amp is delivering tomorrow! I’m happy about that.

Yeah I’m so used to mdf. It’s an exact 3/4”, machines well, is void free, heavy, non resonant, paints nice. Ya know?

I'm strongly considering 2 of the devastator designs and was sold on sanded ply, but you may have persuaded me to go with mdf I'll be interested in your build and impressions using it.

True. But you sure have build a lot. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger or something like that.

I love paying for cut panels. Running mdf through a table saw is miserable.

Oh for sure. If only there was a place like Mann’s closer that did reliable cuts that would be awesome. My uncle has a sweet shop that I may have to talk to on any future builds as he has fun cutting some panels for my other boxes. I just hate to bother him.

As is routing/sanding MDF... Bleh!

Where do you get your panels cut again Jared? Somewhere in Canton wasn't it? I might have to look into that.

I used mdf for mini dev’s, am using arauco ply for submax’s.
Are advantages and disadvantages to both.

The dust from the MDF is not bad when sanding, at least with a shop vac attached to the orbital. To the point I'm in the house sanding and not worried about waking up dead lol.

Quick question. Is this 1.5” referenced to the woofer cutout? Or the outside edge of the woofer. I suspect it’s to the cutout. Just wondering how critical it is.

Cutout. So since your woofer has a cutout of 13 15/16, I’d measure down 8 1/2 from top of baffle for center of cutout.
1/8” variation will make no significant difference.
